Rocker box gaskets
« on: 02 August 2018, 06:53:10 »

I have had an issue with oil leaks for a while now on my 2.6 auto 03 reg.  One of them was from around the oil pressure switch which has now been done, the other two leaks albeit only small are coming from around the rocker box gaskets.  Can these be done by someone like me who has reasonable knowledge of mechanical engineering and if so what is involved please?

As said in previous post  .  .the maintence guide is very good .

For years on here it was always advised to only use  genuine GM cam cover gaskets , but these are very expensive. Not so sure that is everyones opinion now .

Last set I used came from All German Parts in Leeds  & were labelled Victor Rainz ( or a name very similar to that )  These were around £30 for both banks & included the o rings.  So far have no issues with these .

I did not use aftermarket spares so don't now how good they are. Forgot to mention that I renewed also the covers as they were bent. All parts were original GM. That time consuming job for me that I did not want to do it twice, so just for sure.

First time is a slow process for most  . . . but a lot easier once you have done it once.

Not sure how much genuine GM gaskets are now  . . .but at least £80 i would think  :-\

£130 from the stealers for a full set. £15 on ebay, take your pick and a chance. Failure of the gaskets aren't always the fault of the gasket itself, as covers do suffer from warping and cracking, especially radial cracks at the front end of the cover.

The ones AGP  supplied have been good so far & I for one would recommend them .  I am sure AGP advised when I purchased them that Victor Reinz make the genuine ones  for GM  ::)

Pretty sure the £15 e bay ones will be crap  :P :P

Middle option is, of course to keep an eye out for genuine GM, but new old stock, and much cheaper than original price. Dont have the p/n to hand, but I'm sure someone will be along in a bit with it.  :)
