I remember Martin 'no wins' Brundle once saying that the difference between the best and worst drivers is only about 1 second a lap given equal equipment.

The difference between the worst and best cars can be 5 seconds a lap.

When rain levelled the playing field on Saturday, Hamilton outqualified Vettel by nearly a second.  ;)

I think Lewis just hates being in a slower car and, at the moment, that's where he is. If he was driving a Ferrari, we'd all suddenly forget that we hated them and start saying how good Lewis is.
Whether it's Mercedes or Ferrari, it's all a bit mundane. A two horse race every season is bound to turn people off.

It's the cars more than the drivers.

Even the worst F1 driver in a Ferrari/Mercedes will be faster than Hamilton/Vettel in one of the lesser cars.

Depends on how lesser the lesser car is, but I disagree. Hamilton won his first title with McLaren in a car which was by no means the fastest. No-one had won a title in a McLaren since Hakkinen several years before, and no-one has won one since.
Vettel however has only ever won titles when he had a clear car advantage and was the obvious number one driver in the team.

The Hamilton/ Alonso Macca of ten years ago is great when compared to the steaming pile of orange shit they have today.   :)

Yep, but it wasn't a championship winning car for most people, even when driven by the great Alonso.  ;)

I'll go with that.

Alonso would have been more friendly toward Hamilton if he hadn't been genuine competition. Hamilton was a rookie but he gave Alonso a bloody nose.

Number one drivers don't like talented upstarts.

Alonso was so pissed off that he tried to blackmail Ron Dennis into ordering Hamilton not to pass him on the track. Dennis refused and the whole Ferrarigate scandal then unfolded, which put the team into a downward spiral it will probably never recover from.
Foe me, this is why Alonso can never be considered one of the all time greats. Despite that Irish  t wat commentator on C4 yesterday asking "is he the greatest ever ?" Fickin idiot.  ::)

Oh for more damp races. Monza for instance.

I am thinking the teams let some of their drivers down during quali. Raikkonen should have started further up the field but wasnt fuelled enough? Cant remember what The reason was for Ricciardo being down the field from Max. If they had been further up they wouldnt have been caught up in the Hulkenberg carnage.

Raikkonen seems to be almost ignored by Ferrari. Its all about Vettel. Riciardo probably in a similar position at Red Bull now he has taken the inexplicable decision to move to Renault.

Im sure hes already worth more money than he is likely to ever spend. I would have thought that the most important factor is to be in the quickest car you can get into. Hes a superb driver. Just needs a car to match his talent.
Without an offer from Merc or Ferrari, he isn't going to get quicker than Red Bull, unless he knows something the rest of us don't.

Boy wonder Max is still improving. Riciardo is probably as good as he is going to get.

It may prove to be a Hamilton move where he went to up and coming at the right time by moving to Mercedes from Maclaren or an Alonso move from Ferrari to Maclaren. Next season will be very telling. Will Honda have a competitive reliable F1 engine for Red Bull? What improvements do Renault plan to make up the power deficit and reliability compared to Ferrari and Mercedes engines and will they have their own qualification power mode to compete with them?

Where Renault are currently a lower mid ranking team, it must have been a very good yarn that they spun to Ricciardo as it doesn't make any sense on current form. ::) ::) ::)
