Insurance renewal
« on: 31 August 2018, 19:44:44 »

Got this via post today as insurance runs out late next month.Nothing has changed from last year, full no claims, very much a second car[it's insured for 1,000mls per year]garaged when not in use, just me to drive[clean licence]fully comp social domestic and pleasure only-this is for the Omega by the way and this year they want just short of £250 :o which is a huge increase over last years premium >:( It's with Saga at present but I doubt it will be come the renewal date ;D

My carlton 4 banger was about £180 fully comp with breakdown cover.
phoned to ask to swap to the omega and they said 650+  :o
comparison site found AA fully comp for £250
no doubt that will double renewal time , so I will compare again
AA where too costly on breakdown cover so i got an autoaid cover for about £40
(which covers any car i'm in apparently)

Varies so much, but got the 3.2 down to £300 area.

That's commuting to London, 10k miles and driveway stored.

My V70 is less than the Omega renewal quote and that's earning its own NCB [currently on two years]and that stands on the road is insured for the commute as well as S D&P and for 4,000mls per year.Hence the Omega being very much a "second" car.Although I realise the V70 has a smaller[2.4L]engine as opposed to the Omega[3L]and is some 60 odd bhp down-140 bhp against 200+[?]but I'll definitely be shopping around :y

Interesting.

My Saab 9-5's (both of them) are far cheaper than the Omega, yet both are over 100BHP more.  I think it's to do with Safety Standards.  I'm guessing your Ovlov is 5* ENCAP as the Saabs are?

Afraid I couldn't tell you what encap rating the Ovlov is although I doubt it's too high.It glories under various titles apart from V70 it's[apparently]a P80 and also known as a Phase 1 and being registered in January 2000 it's among the last before the re-style came out.By registration date it's 3mths older than my Omega.

Just re_done the 3.2, £212 fully comp with Hastings, I could have saved £20, wasn't worth trucking about, even using cash back not much more to be saved.

From memory I think TBE is around £225ish (Zaf £175 ish, and Pussy £390ish).  TBE is 20k pa, declared mods (bodykit, zorst, LPG, wheels), business use for both of us, FC etc.

(Pussy same, 20k, business use for both of us etc, Zaffy 10k pa, business use for me, SDP for Mrs TB).

Mrs TB doesn't really need business use, but it actually worked out cheaper on TBE (but more expensive on Zaffy).

Sounds like a perfectly good reason not to live near Londonium to me.

My snot is still black, and I still smell of London :(

Honestly, I would love to live elsewhere. We’ve strongly looked at places a few hours away, but work is the problem. Can’t do my job, with my income outside London.

Looked into Leeds as Sky have a base there, but in the end we discounted it.

You just have to shop around , the first years premiums are more often than not just a hook in to get your business in the hope you'll just let it auto renew next year , can't remember the last time I stayed with the same insurer , in these days of comparison sites it's easy enough to shop around
