I always laugh at these car / bike vs. jet aircraft comparisons.

With anything jet powered, it's not the first 100 MPH that counts, it's all the others! ;D

It would have been good to see other “ milestones” like quarter mile, mile and so on.

Yes the aircraft-especially the F16-have some awesome thrust but a lot of weight to get moving[inertia] but once off and running-especially with re-heat-then it becomes a whole different ball game.

Pah. That F-16 is a bog standard Turkish Airforce F-16C. Even so, you can't rev it up to full power on the brakes - it'll just drag itself across the tarmac flat spotting the tyres. From memory it takes 3 seconds to spool up to full power from brakes off. So  if you're going to do meaningless comparisons I give you Streak Eagle where they had to hold it down with explosive bolts on the arrester hook, rev it up and then hang on.

Airborne in 400 ft (7 aircraft lengths), 420MPH in 15.5sec, and supersonic in 23 seconds.

Loads of extra drag when rolling on wheels at sea level too. Completely different beasts, so comparison is futile. I know which one I'd like a play with, given the chance, mind. 8)

I've always fancied the idea of experiencing being in the rear seat of an aircraft getting catapulted off the deck of a carrier and landing back on again.

Not sure there'd be the same challenge in burning kerosene, TBH. Would be happy to test the theory, though. ;)

Me too. I'll be doing something similar in Jockular land next week. at least, it feels like you're trying to land on a carrier deck, but it's the air that's tipping around all over the place and the airfield staying still, apparently, at any rate. Everything's relative.  ;D
