Been mortgage free since 1987  ....

I'd yet to buy a house back then  ;)
I was on my 3rd then bought my first in 1974 brand new 2 bedroom semi-detached cost me £10,850 I was 20 years old also had a brand new Ford Escort Mexico ! Living the dream, done very well with property over the last 30 years , don't care what any financial adviser says put your cash in bricks & mortar can't go wrong.

Donate it to the less well off, like any good socialist should.  ;D

I couldn't possibly donate it to a wealthy right-winger like yourself. Perhaps I could give it to that nice Mr Corbyn. :)

Or pay the mortage for a poor family who cant afford one. Redistribution of wealth is the right thing to do. You know it makes sense.  :y

Absolutely. When we moved a few years ago had surplus cash after selling London house. Bought a flat in London as well as house in Wales. The flat has been better than any investment would have been, even allowing for CGT if/when I sell.

I'm guessing a Mk1 Escort Mexico was around £1000 in '74.................worth a small fortune today. :y

Definitely , sold all our rental properties now & bought our dream house cash, never thought we would ever be in this position 30 years ago .All started with an inheritance of just over £50,000 in 1987 just very lucky, didn't listen to any financial advisers all seem slippery buggers to me just used commonsense & a very good accountant .

I was too young at the time but I always liked the Mk1 Escort twin cam. This car had the same engine  as the Lotus Cortina and Lotus Elan.

Pretty rare these days and worth a lot of money. :y

Thirty years is a long time. If you worked harder you'd only need a 10 year mortgage. :) ;)
