Sorry to make another post regarding locking wheel nuts, but my neighbour has got a puncture in one of his tyres and cannot find the Key to unlock the security wheel nut - his 2-year-old may be responsible!
Any suggestions as to how to undo the thing without major destruction, please?

I can only suggest something like these https://www.machinemart.co.uk/p/locking-wheel-nut-remover-2pc/ A local ATS used similar a few years back to remove mine after a Kwik Fit Fitter buggered my key up.

a set of two probably won't be enough. More comprehensive sets are available for not much more, and improve your chances of success.


That type of remover will never work on nuts with a loose collar until you've chiseled it off. Remove and replace all four nuts while you're at it. I would only ever use standard, not locking nuts.

What on earth would  a 2 year old be doing rummaging around in the glovebox or boot ?where any item like this normally be located .. Anyway enough about wheelnuts

I know there are more comprehensive sets  .... hence my comment of something like. 
ATS did use this kind of thing on the original 3 peg type lock nuts that had a floating collar, it's just that the collar on the original lock nuts wasn't quite as substantial as the later type.

As to whether to use locking or none locking ... that wasn't the question. 

I'm quite happy with locking bolts on 3 out of the 4 cars here

Most of the nut removers are only suitable for use with an impact gun.

We use “Dynomec” kit. Brass bits u hammer in to the shape of the locker and bar them off. Works well but the brass bits are pricey. Other than that weld big blob on to the locker and Irwin stud removers to grip on to the weld and spin off

Don't bother with the stud removers but knock a large nut onto the blob of weld, weld the two together then undo with normal handtools.

I found a local chap who came and took mine off for 70 notes cash.  It's probably too far for him to get to you but if you look around on google/yellow pages you might find someone nearby.

I bought an Omega at the Witney auction 10 years ago. When I got it home I discovered it had a locking nut on each wheel, and could find no unlocking key in the car. In desperation I found the previous owner's name and address on documentation in the car, and phoned him. 'It was my wife's car. The tool should be in the car', he said. He asked her where the tool was, it turned up in her handbag. I drove to his house, and he gave it to me. Problem solved.

Every used car I have bought since, I have checked before purchase if it has locking wheel nuts, and, if so, if the unlocking key is present.
