Patio Doors
« on: 03 November 2018, 11:57:38 »

We are about to replace our 25 yr old south facing patio doors, and in an effort to reduce glare we have been recommended Pilkington sun-activ for the outer pane and 'k' glass for the inner pane. However in an old thread elsewhere I read that the k glass can look slightly opaque when the sun is at a certain angle. Can anyone shed any light (pun intended 8)) on this?
Research shows that Pilkington offer many types of specialist glass, so picking the right one to give some glare protection from the sun, with optimum thermal value is tricky. :-\

We had  similar sun reflective double glazed units fitted in a large loft room tilt,n,turn window, some years ago.The glass was called Kappafloat and has a slightly tinted effect when view through from inside the room. From the outside it is almost impossible to see through and gives a slightly "oily" effect and does help keep the room cooler.

Wasn't cheap if I recall but does the job well in comparison to normal float glass.

As advised check out the Pilkington site and further information ...not sure if Kappafloat is still an option but works well

Yes, read through all of it, and am still confused. Needless to say they have not responded to my request sent a week ago for advice, hence my post here. :y
