Auto play videos
« on: 20 December 2018, 12:16:26 »

Is there any way to stop these pesky things from loading up and playing.  It's usually the news sites and I just like to read the article in peace without some often irrelevant video chuntering away!  ::)

I've tried turning off plug ins, flash and java in settings on Chrome, but it either dosn't work or it shuts video down completely.  I'd like the option to click and watch.

I've also tried downloading blocker software similar to adblock but that didn't work either...  :-\

What to do?  ???  ::)  Modern problems!  ;D

It is a real problem for folk like me with only 20 gb per month.

If you minimise a website with these “ videos” are they still playing and usingyour bandwidth or once playing they dont consume anymore? Planet f1 .com and one expat forum in particular are both really bad culprits.

Reputable sites have minimal embedded ads, as can get a better price from just the single ad at the top.

Many sites allow a subscription to avoid ads.

I use Firefox with the 'NoScript' plugin.

Often when I visit a new site I find that I have to allow some scripts before the site works as designed (for this site I have allowed scripts from omegaowners.com). (Omegaowners.com is almost unique in not using scripts from outside omegaowners.com)

Some sites use supporting scripts (eg wordpress )that are also needed.

After that there are adverts and videos (which I don't usually allow) and then some site are using scripts from 20+ different sources. Once faced with list that long I tend to give up and close the page before something bad happens.....
