I have a little guitar practice amp here which can run off a 9v pp3 battery or a mains adapter.
Info on the back of the amp say 9v dc----200ma. I have an adapter which says 9v dc----300ma.
Will the extra 100ma make it go pop, or is it insignificant ?
Tia.  :)

It means the amp requires 200mA, but the adapter can supply up to 300mA. As long as the adapter can supply more current than the amplifier requires (which it can in this case) it'll be fine. The adapter won't attempt to "force" 300mA into the amp, and the amp probably won't be taking 200mA either unless you turn the volume up to 11.

9V at 200mA  is 1.8 watts DC input. I'd be surprised to see 50% of that make it to the speaker, so we aren't going to be talking spinal tap here. ;D

As said will be fine, the Amp will only Draw what it requires to feed its Load, ie, Speaker(s).

Now if the question was an increase in the 12V supply Voltage, then thats a different scenario.

I'll bet the local chippy does well. Every time Albs starts his 190 up, people start fancying fish and chips.  ;D

Assuming power comes in via a barrel jack, just make sure the polarity is the same (centre positive or centre negative) or you will let the smoke out ;D

There's usually a diagram on both device and adapter, just make sure it matches :)

Adapter says polarity  - then a kind of circle thing then +  amp says the same, so can blast the neighbours with 1 (yes one) watt of noise.  :)
Thanks for the help everyone, apart from STEMO obviously who can far cough. :y :)

Albs, I should have a spare 6V adaptor here; if/when I find it, it's yours.
