I'd be interested to know your initial impression of the new derv-drinker Merc.

Delighted?

Indifferent?

Disappointed?

That young Tunnie fella claimed about 75 MPG for his derv Passat. ;)

I've only got as far as putting the deposit on it yet.   ;)

I can't see it being much better than my R320 as it uses the same running gear and has basically the same engine. The R Class returned 32 mpg driving to & from the Midlands this week helped part by all the bl00dy 50mph restrictions on the M6. I can get it down to low 20s around tiwn without trying too hard  ;D

On a long run at truck speeds, I did see 76mpg average.  :y

The 4 cylinder 2.1 diesel in the E-Class I found poor on fuel, low 40’s at best. Drove mummy bus to Wales this evening, 48 mpg and was not hanging about. I failed to crack 50 in the Merc, even when trying to be good.

So low 30’s sounds right for 6 pot Merc.

That is what I do not get about Mercedes is the poor fuel economy.

I quite often run around in my company hack if I have long journeys to do (sits on our car front rest of the time looking nice) and I can easily run 52mpg out of it.

730d 7-series G11 (more recently x-drive as they all seem to be going that way now) 3.0 straight 6 diesel and get similar when I run the 530d G30.

Yes...when used on a 1.8 TC Marina coupe. I'm sure it made the girls knickers very wet and loose. ::) ::) ::)

Ignoring the millennial bleating, the newer E classes, '61/12 tend to have a 7 speed box rather than five ;)

Mine was a five speed 220d and saw 32ish around town and 45/7 on a decent run. Did Lyndhurst to Darlington and back on a single tank (albeit the car had the optional 80l tank).

My 4x4 diesel Insignia was no better on fuel inspite of a manual box ;)

I get low 30s from my tractor. Much like I did from my Omega tractor.  I'm sure it could easily get over 40 - in fact one forum member on another site claims 50+ over tank. But I really CBA, life is too short, I don't want to waste mine sitting behind lorries.

I'm liking my E250, I get about 45mpg on my 30 mile commute (well 42-50) depending on driving style.
Comfy, nice place to be, plenty fast enough.  Ticks my boxes, but we are all different.

Newer Merc use a 9 speed auto. Mine is 'only' 7 speed ....(no 3 pedal option even if you wanted one)

I can only just get 50mpg from my 451 Smart Fortwo (but it is the 84bhp turbo  :))
