Tesla dealership streamlining plans...
« on: 02 March 2019, 11:50:17 »

... appear to be more drastic than first expected...

WestSussexFire crews are dealing with "a significant fire" at the Tesla car dealership building on County Oak Way in #Crawley. Six engines and an Aerial Ladder Platform are at the scene.

Must say, from work it certainly looked impressive.

Ah yes but the Tesla 3 is now cheap enough to afford. Soon we will all have electric cars..

Imagine the firemen. "I fancy that one, fill it up with your hose, but mind the batteries".  ;D

Do not under estimate the volativity of the lithium packs used on EVs.  They become unstable with temperature, and easily suffer impact damage, which is one of the reasons you are not allowed to airmail such batteries.

Various lithium batts are popular in the modelling world, and I've seen them explode (not just catch fire) when charging, when heavy discharging, and when crashing.

I used have several 'debates' with passengers travelling with mobility scooters with Lion and Lipo batteries. The issue being that they fall into the Dry Cell category, because technically they are dry cells. Most airlines insist that they are carried in the cabin rather than the hold.

I always reverted to the Valuejet crash as that was a textbook example of what happens with a self fuelled hold fire.

The official incident time line makes quite chilling reading.

Don't underestimate the 415volt 3 phase power that they supply when connected either.

Have to agree to disagree on the former, but I am wholeheartedly with you on the latter...

Recently had a look at them on Autotrader and you can buy a nice house in Great Yarmouth for what the current Model S costs :o

Used start at over £35k. Did consider one for work when the P90D was launched... the numbers almost worked. The way they haven't depreciated over the last 6/7 years, it would have effectively been free... ::)

You could say that about a lot of cars, though.. big Mercs, for example, or a Range Rover, or a Q7, or a 911..

True enough. Makes you wonder who actually buys enough cars at that price point to justify building so many of them  :-\

That said, VAG are clearly trying to squeeze every penny out of their larger SUV platforms judging by the constant barrage of ads for the latest Skoda/Seat offerings...

Even relatively main stream cars seem to be starting at over £30k :o
