General Discussion Area / ♫ Silence is Golden ♫
« on: 08 July 2017, 17:29:53 »
One night a man walks into a bar looking sad. The bartender asks the man what he wants. The man says “Oh just a beer”. The bartender asked the man “Whats wrong, why are you so down today?” The man said “My wife and i got into a fight, and she said she wouldn't talk to me for a month”. The bartender said “So what’ s wrong with that?”? The man said “Well the month is up tonight”. ::)

General Discussion Area / They hang horses don't they?
« on: 08 July 2017, 17:25:41 »

"Daddy, why do people hang horses?" asked my daughter.
"Nobody hangs horses, darling," I consoled her in my lap. "Who told you that people hang horses?"
"I just heard mummy on the phone saying that her new boss was hung like a horse."

General Discussion Area / Flap trouble
« on: 08 July 2017, 17:24:34 »
The waitress noticed me struggling to open the mini cornflake packet in the breakfast buffet.
"Just slide your finger between the flaps", she suggested.
That finished badly..... On bail till my court appearance. :-[

General Discussion Area / Car trouble

In hindsight I should have posted my Facebook status as: "I've blown the head gasket on my 1997 XR3i”rather than "I've just buggered a 14 year old escort".
The police still haven't seen the funny side, my lap top's been confiscated, and the wife has gone off to her mother. :-[

Is there any reason I should not install this on my Samsung smart TV?

I'm continuing this from the posts on the "What have you...etc" thread as there are clearly some tech whizzkids who can help, no pack drills but their last 3's are Tunnie and TheBoy.
Jaime, you talked about Siri, are you suggesting that I can ask it to play my music by Blue tooth? :-\

Omega General Help / Battery vent plugs
« on: 01 July 2017, 11:49:49 »
Being nosy, I was poking around in the engine bay of the 'new' Mondeo, and spotted that the battery vent plugs are still fitted. As far as I am aware, these should always be removed when the battery is on a charging system. Or does someone know differently? :-\ :-\ :-\

General Discussion Area / TV for conservatory
« on: 28 May 2017, 18:36:21 »
I am still looking for this, and would like one that has the facility to take ethernet as well as the standard co-ax. I expect to have a Freesat box to connect to it, satellite connection not essential, so a Freeview set is fine. I don't need 4k, I'm 80 and it will be years before we get that on free channels. I refuse to pay for Sky.
Hopefully under £400 and good quality, 32"  to 40".
Suggestions from owners with experience would be helpful.

TIA

General Car Chat / Park Assist
« on: 18 May 2017, 22:34:06 »
Used this for ll parking the Mondeo for the first time, frightened me to death the speed at which it reversed into a slot I would have disregarded as too tight. Very impressive. :y

Cars for Sale & wanted / For Sale 2.5TD CDX Estate
« on: 16 April 2017, 17:16:26 »
1999 2.5TD CDX MFL Estate in Polar Sea Blue, grey leather, 132,000 miles. First registered
11th March 1999. MOT until 24th April 2018.
Management car bought by me from VX on 5th November 1999 at 7000 miles.
Audio system is the CCRT700 with integral telephone facility, and 6 slot cassette CD player in the load bay.
Full service history, not VX. Oil & filter changes have been done at about 3k intervals.
Bodywork condition very good, and has been lovingly cared for by me for 18 years. There is very slight rust bubbling at the back of the rear NS arch, all the arches were treated and sprayed a couple of years ago.
All four corners, i.e. rear of front inner wings and front of rear inner wings, have had solid welding work done.
Everything works as it should except the following:
Driver’s heated seat hasn’t worked since a week or so after I got it, and CBA to get it fixed. ::)
Some illumination bulbs in the climate panel have failed.
The fuel filter electrical plug is secured with a cable tie.

The engine ECU has the full fat performance chip fitted, original chip comes with the car.
A common fault on these is the seizure of the turbo intercooler fan as conditions rarely trigger its operation. Mine failed due to this, and I have altered the cct such that it is now switchable and fused via a relay.
All shock absorbers and springs have been renewed in the past two years.
The front wishbone bushes are poly bushed.
The rear doughnut bushes are poly bushed.
New centre and rear silencers fitted last year.
Coolant system flushed and refilled recently. The viscous fan has not been fitted for some years, but comes with the car.
The AC condenser was replaced 2 years ago. There are signs of leakage from the AC compressor, and so I bought a new one last year pending failure of the AC, it is still working, so not required yet. This also comes with the car.
Ignition switch and barrel replaced recently.
Steering pump replaced last year.
Last year I removed the AR35 gearbox to replace a broken thrust washer. When refitting I cracked a small portion of the engine sump, which is neither structural nor oil retaining, and therefore I have not replaced the sump. A month or so ago the box appeared to ‘slip’ slightly in “D” but has been OK since ATF renewal. A brand new unused AR35 comes with the car, but it is for a Carlton, and although I have altered the wiring to suit the Omega, the gear actuator shaft is on the opposite side of the box, and therefore the shaft from the existing box needs transferring.
Roof bars and cargo net also provided.
Some other spares, filters etc., are also included,
This car is good for another 130K, or until the Government bans diesels. :-X
£700 ONO.

Omega General Help / Gearbox swap
« on: 28 March 2017, 14:47:34 »
I plan to sell my TD Estate which is otherwise excellent conditiion, but am unhappy to do so while the gearbox is playing up , and although I took it out last year for the thrust washer replacement, am unwilling to do it again on my own. I have sourced another AR35 and hope that one of our itinerant mechanics will allow me to make them an offer to help me replace it. Is anyone out there foolish enough to offer?
