had just about enough now, a sad day for my car!
« on: 07 April 2009, 16:01:17 »

Hi everyone

spoke with my local mechanic, and he spoke to his mate who has worked for Vauxhall for 30 years, he advised me to take the car to Vauxhall Dealership to run the "diagnostic test" to find the fault with "why i have no heat at all, and only cold Air" because it could be many different problems....
i have just got back from there, cost me £29 to be told that my head gasket has gone on my car, i`m sat here in shock as i loved me little Omega, i have done about 8000 miles in about 6 - 7 years, only use it 2 days a week, maybe slightly more.... normally sat on my drive, has had regular oil changes every 5000 miles, spent a fortune last year on cambelt, water pump, rocker cover gaskets and tons of other stuff on it etc etc etc....#

i asked Vauxhall how much to fix it, they told me 22 hours at £65 an hour, just for the Labour!!
thats £1430 WITHOUT the parts! how much are the parts then?

so, do i scrap the car? sell it on Ebay? how much would i get for it?
its done 68000 miles exactly

does the head gasket just go and its one of them things?
i dont understand how it can just go like this, or have i done it no good by not using it every day?

im totally gutted as im broke and cant afford another car, i wont be buying an Omega again, as much as i loved my car for how plush it was inside, how quiet it is to drive, used to get 33 MPG driving at about 70mph everywhere, the car has served me well... so maybe its just FATE

Very rare for the V6's head gaskets to go, I think you're being led up the garden path. What exactly are the symptoms/problems?

Does the car use any water and is there any mayo on the dipstick.

Wayne you should know better than to listen to your Vauxhall Dealer before asking the question on here ::)

i was simply told that the first thing that was run was a "pressure test" and that this showed that the head gasket was gone...

i basically got up this morning, headed to Vauxhall because i had NO heat coming from my heater, only cold air...even when set to HOT.
half way there i topped up with some coolant and then i had heat!
got to Vauxhall and turnt my heating off and then back on again, and NO heat! checked the coolant level and that was fine

let it with Vauxhall for 30 minutes and thats what they told me, there isnt any gunk on the Dipstick...

how the hell do i know if they are lying?
i cant trust anyone these days, apart from you guys!

im praying they are bullshitting me, i will then be able to sleep again

all i want is heat from my heater, it works occassionally and then the next minute it wont give me any heat...then it works, then it dont

Is the coolant level dropping significantly?

Have you tried resetting the climate (press Auto and Off for a few seconds)?

last Saturday i set off from Nottingham, put the heat on and only cold air come out, i stopped at M1 Leicester South Services, called Green Flag out and they checked the coolant level, said it was fine, i also checked and it was almost Maximum.. they couldnt fix it by the roadside as they had NO idea what it was, great ey ?
got up this morning, started my car up and it said "coolant level low"
i checked and it was just below minimum!  so i put 2 pints of water in it and the heat started to work

got to Vauxhall and it was still working, came out of Vauxhall afer buying some AntiFreeze (thinking it was just low coolant level) and had to turn the car round and take it back to get the diagnostic test done as adding more coolant made no difference as it hadnt gone down at all
