Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Omega Towbar Electrics..
« on: 11 November 2008, 18:23:06 »
Ive just picked up a 2.5 Elite with towbar and thought i`d benchmark it towing a horsebox compared to the Grand Cherokee.

However the lights ( any of them) on the trailer dont work in conjunction with the miggy being linked up, they all work perfectly with the Jeep towing.

So I conclude  ;D that theres a problem with the wiring or summit on the omega towbar.

Its got the towball and wiring thingy at the end with the 7? pins and all the fuses are fine.

So where do i go next to determin the problem? Is it easy to fault find at this stage or do i get it rewired...

I know nowt about electrics or towbars in case you didnt notice....

TIA  :y

Birthday time sooon.....wife wants to know what i want.

I mean what do you buy the man that has everything ...( Idea : Facelift 3.2 mv6  :))

Struggling for ideas then i though . o O Omega sounds.

Anyone got any recommendations for an AMP and replacement speakers that will fit in the original door housings, if i recall correctly the Omega speakers are quite shallow.

I dont under any circumstances want to change the head unit as i use the phone function on my crt700 often. I also dont like phone kits etc so it must stay.

Would appreciate any ideas

Omega General Help / Y26SE Engine parts Omega/ Vectra compatibility
« on: 10 February 2007, 12:09:59 »
I need to ensure that the thermostat and another associated part for my 2.6 vectra are the same as the 2.6 omegas.

Could someone confirm the following....

thermostat part number 24420652 from vectra 2.6  - is this only on the vectra 2.6 or is it the same part on 2.6 omega ( or 2.5 omega?)

Pipe running from thermostat outwards ( metal pipe) part number 90411829 - same info required.

Oh and can anyone actually tell me what 90411829 is called ? a vx price would also be mega......

Omega General Help / Wifes Stranded with Dead Miggy....
« on: 21 April 2008, 11:38:56 »
Not sure what to make of this...

I replaced the dispack due to rough running a fortnight ago - its ran like a dream since.

Swmbo came out to go an errand at work and plipped the cdx facelift to open it. It opened but since then its dead.

Wont turn over, wont lock or unlock, no lights at pre ignition nothing.

Shes called me from work and as much as i can establish the battery is good ( i KNOW it to be good) its connected well, and all fuses seem to be fine.

Final info is that when she opens the doors she gets a high pitched bleep for a second....and thats it...

Thoughts from afar ?

Ive fought long and hard with this bloody dispack...now refitting everything and i have a spare cable...it has no markings, its not a breather, its not a coolant pipe and is quite hard plastic.

There no sign of any form of liquid from it and following as much as i can it goes straight down the back of the engine...i cant see this pipe on my other omegas  :'(

where have i dragged it up from ?

Omega General Help / rather Dis Packs
« on: 12 April 2008, 19:45:19 »
Was all set to clean out the Veccy sump today when SWMBO advised lat night her omega was going like a crock of cack...

Ive submitted tonight after grappling with dis pack removal for 3.5 hours.....done a few before so i know what i am doing..

But i`ll be darned if i can get that last dispack bolt out.

What methods do everyone else use for bolt front right of dispack...i think i used a 2" extension before and guess what i can find today  >:(

Omega General Help / MV6 is unwell - Grinding noises at fan temp..
« on: 19 February 2008, 11:19:51 »

Just discovered this whilst coming into work and sitting in city centre traffic standstill, felt a bad vibration inside the car and a grinding noise - not sure if it was mine or the Chelsea tractors / buses etc...anyway it came on again further down the road and yep its mine...

Had a quick investigate when i got to our underground car park - bit dark.

Now the aux belt seems fine, as is performance, coolant level, engine temperature etc.

I suspect that as the noise comes on and off in line with when the fan comes on and off that ive identified the issue..so any thoughts - would it be a siezed motor, are there any issues down that way...

I cant see if the fan is actually rotating or not due to lack of light and tools  :(

Omega General Help / Strange advisory Notice
« on: 03 December 2007, 15:29:08 »
.....from SWMBOs 2.5cdx MOT. I havent heard on anything similar ( certinly not on facelift)

corrosion starting on offside front of chassis section and on both rear inner sills on underside. It makes no suggestions or warnings about danger so i am hopings its simply something a thorough mot`er has spotted.

Now panic has set in, how long before rust that "has started" becomes a terminal failure....

Odd that i have two pre facelifts and they are older and lots more mile than this one.

MOT tester has gone for the day and i am at work so really cant get to check this out.....I am hoping that the fluffyness of the advisory may mean we have a very very over cautions mot`er.

Oh and nothing else to worry about  :-/

Any thoughts people?

Omega General Help / Vibration at speed on 2.5 v6 CDX
« on: 29 November 2007, 10:45:27 »
Strange one this, to me anyway.

Wife got new rear tyres ( brand new) about 4 weeks ago. Fronts are fine.

She started complaining about a vibration at speed about 2 weeks ago, dont know if its related to the tyres.

I took the car out this morning and there is a pretty bad vibration at 70mph onwards.

Strange thing is the front wheels have not been off and the tyres are fine on front so i doubt balancing...

Wheel nuts are all tight to the proper torque, tyres are inflated to the proper pressures.

The vibration is at around 3000rpm (ish) at 70-mph upwards HOWEVER taking the foot off the loud pedal eliminates it. Also there is no vibration at all through the steering, no noises, no pulling even under breaking and no typical puilling to the left. Also i cant reproduce the vibration accelerating hard at a lower speed to that rev range..

Tyre treads have always shown even wear....

Any input folks?

Omega General Help / No Hot air from Heaters
« on: 27 September 2007, 22:16:36 »
On the prefacelift estate - not MV6.

Put the heating on first time ever this (frosty) morning and no hot air, even when engine heat up etc.

Heater blows air on all settings apart from out vents ( ie to window, to feet etc) but it never heats up...

It has no air con and is basic 2,5 CD 1998 style, also noted dial for increase in blower is very very stiff....

Any thoughts as to where my first port of call in this weekends investigations should be on this?

Omega General Help / Mis Fire & Ignition Leads
« on: 01 September 2007, 09:55:50 »
Okay stripped down the estate last week to solve the onging misfire - its already got new dispack and seemed okay for a while.

centre ignition lead on both banks are corroded and really cant be helping - ive ordered new ones but now ben let down by the seller.  >:( more on that cowboy later....

I have 3 brand new unused leads in th garage - all three for the drivers side bank as you look at the engine bay so i can temporarily replace the middle broken lead there with no issues - ideally i want to replace them all....

Now can i use one of my spare leads ( they are for this model of vehicle) and replace the middle lead on the shorter passenger bank /

Im concerned that ( the only difference is ) the lead i am putting in is longer and may upset spark / timing etc

Would it ?

Omega General Help / Code 19 - Crank Sensor
« on: 17 September 2007, 13:15:35 »
Okay the estate refuses under any circumstances to start - so i obviously have total failure, luckily its at home and i have the rest of the fleet to use.

Am i safe in buying the below replacement - i know theres two different ones - car in question is 1998 2.5 cd manual. Or do i need to remove the old one first to check connections.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=150096919052&ssPageName=MERCOSI_VI_ROSI_PR4_PCN_BIX_Stores&refitem=150161485252&itemcount=4&refwidgetloc=closed_view_item&refwidgettype=osi_widget

Also - would there be any greater chance in starting via jump start or anyone got any tips in getting it started as ideally i want it off the road and into the workshop for changeover.

Omega General Help / When is a misfire not a Misfire
« on: 12 September 2007, 11:10:20 »
Right this old chestnut again :-/

Misfire - solved by dispack change.
Misfire returns 2 weeks later - after a 80mph drive on a motorway that was torrential - this time full breather clean, IACV, new leads, plugs fine....you know the score all usual suspects.

Misfire still there. But not as bad.Been using the misfiring estate to get an idea of cause, gradually its got better though. Seems to be very low revs its worse.

However, sometimes it struggles to start with some 20secnds of cranking and various popping noises from under the bonnet. When it does this you can be sure it hesitates and "misfires" on the outward journey. Crank sensor wouldnt impact once started would it?

This morning though it starts on the button and is silky smooth, no hesitation. Nothing.

So my thougts were that a misfire was a misfire and would pretty much be there. Im starting to think of a fuel problem on this one and move away from plugs, leads, compression, etc... Should add theres no fuel smells, leaks, idle problems or issues over consumption.

Any thoughts people?

Omega General Help / "Misfire" only when engine heats up! Why?
« on: 08 September 2007, 13:21:00 »
Yep this misfire again.

Plugs new
rockers fine - no oil and done with gnuine parts recently
new dispack
new leads
both multi rams kicking in at appropriate range.
breathers and iacv spotless

Car unlike before now idles fairly okay. Starting sometimes requires a turn or two with an occasional pop noise from under bonnet...

Car then drives fine - 2 mile run to the tip was fine but i get impression its lacking power.
2 mile trip back sees car with less power, very heistant and lurching in all gears when pushing it. By this time engine temperatur at norm. No verheating issues.

Got to last turn at the house and gently increased my speed in second gear at low down revs and got that pop noise again from under bonnet.

Cricket? well im stumped now  :-/
