General Discussion Area / Biden & Covid
« on: 31 July 2022, 13:12:37 »
So apparently Joe Biden has tested positive for Covid again and gone into isolation, only a short time after his previous bout with the sniffle.  ::)

I wonder though..... It's a handy excuse to keep the old boy away from the scrutiny of the cameras.  ???  :)

General Discussion Area / Capital Punishment
« on: 30 July 2022, 22:30:36 »
I've never believed in capital punishment, but think that life should mean life and murderers should spend the rest of their lives behind bars, preferably in a bare cell with only the walls to look at.

But when little girls are getting casually knifed on the streets of Britain in broad daylight is it time to revisit the issue?  ???

RIP Lilia Valutyte  :'(

As above really.  I'll delete them as they get knocked out and you can vote again.  :)

General Car Chat / Windscreen Washers
« on: 24 June 2022, 18:08:24 »
For a while the windscreen washers on the Mondeo have been crap, particularly on the drivers side and yesterday that side stopped working.  :(

So I pulled off the hoses and discovered a little one way valve just before the drivers side nozzle that had jammed. I freed it up and got it flowing again (kind of..) put it all back together, adjusted the nozzles and now I have nothing, nada, zilch! Just a clicking of a relay somewhere in the glovebox.  >:(

Have I shocked the pump to it's early demise?  :-\  ::)  :D

General Discussion Area / Privet Hedge
« on: 12 June 2022, 19:22:16 »
If I cut my privet hedge right back to the stems and branches will it regenerate and become a nice green hedge again?  ???

I know if you cut leylandii type hedges back too much they don't grow back and look like a horrible mess.  ::)

Laurel hedges on the other hand are very forgiving and will grow back quickly after a severe hair cut.  :y

What about privet?  :-\

General Discussion Area / Vote Of No Confidence
« on: 06 June 2022, 14:00:52 »
So Boris Johnson faces a vote of no confidence this evening, so I thought we'd have an OOF vote as well!  :y

Personally, I would vote for him to stay, as I don't think that this is any time for the country to be without a Prime Minister and it will take a couple of months for the Tories to select a new leader and Prime Minister.

Yes he's made mistakes, but I feel that partygate for example has been blown out of all proportion by his enemies in the media, Labour and within the Tory party. Note how the media aren't talking about Sir Starmers police investigation into his Durham beer and curry night.  ::)

He's also pulled off a couple of masterstrokes which I can't imagine any other politician having the balls to do. Taking the vaccine program away from the Department of Health and setting up the Vaccine Taskforce led by Venture Capitalist Kate Bingham for one. Most would have defaulted to the 'safe route' of joining the EU's efforts and I'm sure that that was the advice from the Civil Servants at the time.  The AUKUS submarine deal with Australia and the USA, was another act which I can't imagine any other potential PM doing, as they'd probably be too worried about upsetting the French!  ;D

No other peacetime PM has had to deal with the issues that Boris has had to deal with, and yes although the parties at No10 weren't good, I see it more as a Civil Service issue than Boris Johnsons fault. The narrative peddled that Boris Johnson partied on an industrial scale while people died, is complete and utter 'dangle berries'!

There's great potential for Ukraine to spin out of control into a wider conflict and this is no time for a power vacuum in No 10!  >:(

Some may disagree with me!  ;D

General Car Chat / Insurance
« on: 05 June 2022, 17:22:45 »
Just bought this years insurance for the Mondeo for £155 from Zenith, and hopefully will get £35 cashback from GoCompare via Topcashback.  :)

So effectively it's cost £120.  :y

My renewal price from SwiftCover was £179.

General Discussion Area / So Hands Up.....
« on: 31 May 2022, 17:42:54 »
..... How many of you are still wearing a mask out and about?  ???

I haven't worn a mask for months now, but nothing wrong if you do.  After all there are a lot of folk out there with health conditions that clearly want to avoid catching a cold let alone Covid and believe that masks offer protection.  :)  I'm just curious that's all.  :y

Yesterday going into Tesco, I passed a woman in her late thirties with two kids, a boy and a girl both about 7 or 8 years old. The woman was wearing a gasmask type mask with two filters and both kids were wearing the neoprene masks with the little breathing hole/filter. The little lad was getting a bollocking from his Mum because he kept fiddling with his mask and taking it off etc.  ::)

I first thought that she was totally ridiculous, but did reflect that there might have been good reason for masking up like that.  :-\  I suspect though that she is in fact a ridiculous woman and is damaging her kids with her Covid paranoia!  ::)

Thoughts?  ???

General Discussion Area / Baldies

An employment tribunal has ruled that calling a man bald is sexual harassment and is akin to commenting on the size of a woman's breasts!  ::)

So you can't call Mick a baldie tuesday anymore! Right?  ???                           ;D

Apparently the Highway Code will be amended to allow people to watch TV/films, surf the internet read emails etc while their self driving car carries them from A to B.  :)

Apparently the use of mobile phones will still be prohibited because it may be a distraction!  ???  ;D

General Car Chat / Parts Supplier Bookmark!

I bought the new caliper for the Mondeo from Ebay, from a company called Advantage Auto Parts for £34.49, which was about half the price of ECP or CP4L!  :y

It seems well made (although time will tell) and was identical to the original that came off.  They offered next day delivery (not to a certain address in Brackley...Obviously!) and indeed it turned up next day.  :)
