Cheers for all your input lads  :y

So.

100x100mm mild steel, 3mm thick, Project ''EGR Blank''.

I really enjoyed using it to cut. Was SOOO careful with every move I made. The disc grabbed a couple of times so I see why you have to hold it really firmly with the handle...not sure I'd ever take that off  :-\

Just got to grind to finish the shape.

Thanks to everyone for links.... those cutting discs Mark recommended were ordered yesterday at 15.00.....arrived today at 1  :o :o :o :o :y

New ''metal fabrication tool box'' in the garage ;D

Some off cuts...

And was in b n q today for more g clamps, vice grip c clamps etc and picked up some on offer tools as most of my T & E sockets have either broke or a gone a missing  ::) wonder if they'll be any good  :-\

 :y :y :y

So now I've used the tool and got semi-used to it I'll be chopping up the old pug door next in prep for. . . . Welding it back together  ::) ;D

Anything in particular to be concerned about? Obviously glass and crap out of the door first  ::) I presume I can just lay it on the ground and go for it

Ps, re the sparks (knew there was something I forgot  ::)).....

I adjusted the guard so that it was in front of me but I could see the disc. I played about with the guard position to see if it would alter the spark direction . . .  It did but it always was coming towards me. So I stepped to the side and allows the sparks to 'pass' me.

Is there any way to get the sparks going in front and away from me?

Make sure there is nothing flammable or combustable in the area the sparks could reach...   ...unless you want a garage like mine ;D

Not bumping lads but how long do these cutting discs last / when do I put a new one on? Did about half hour with one disc. . . Can I re-use it safely?

You can use it till its not big enough to cut any more although in practice it'll be sooner than that as you won't be able to see around the guard ;)

Thanks Henry  :y

Roughly speaking how many hours / minutes at a guess would you say a cutting disc would last?  :-\

Worst case, (working the grinder to it's limit & cutting something solid) 10-15 minutes

If you make a habit of burning through discs then you probably want to buy a bigger grinder.

The trick to cutting disc life is to let the disc do the cutting, don't apply excess pressure.

Those discs I linked are very good, cut well and last well.......try some crappy Silverline or similar cheapo brand ones if you want to see how short lived they can be  ;D :D :y
