Omega General Help / Breather Hose
« on: 24 November 2023, 17:00:09 »
I have a split breather hose feeding the rear of the plenum, one of the smaller diameter of the two.

When I get out of hospital I want to replace it.  Is that straightforward and where can I obtain such a part now please? ;)

Omega General Help / Alternator
« on: 20 October 2023, 11:09:21 »
Travelling just 3 miles from home yesterday, the alternator red light came on.  Bit by bit the electrical power went, then the dreaded limp mode made it's feelings known. I just managed to park up outside my home, and the engine died.  No power left to turn the engine, or work any electrics!

I knew what the problem was, but called in the AA to inspect, check all connections, and then confirm my fears.  Alternator gone, dead, cupput! :'(

Found prices for a replacement, and asked my local garage for a quote to replace.  How easy is it to fit an alternator?  The last time I fitted a - well, it was a generator then on an A40 -  it was dead easy.  Not so now I reckon on a 3.2 engine.

Any thoughts please. ;)

General Car Chat / ULEZ
« on: 28 August 2023, 13:57:51 »
So from midnight tonight the London ULEZ is being extended.  For me that means that when I drive  in northern Kent I can go into the Greater London charging zone.

On BBC there is a news report often repeated, with the reporter stating “any car registered before 2005 will have to pay the charge”.

WRONG!! ::) ::)

According to the online official checker for this charge my 2003, 3.2 Omega is exempt as it meets the criteria of acceptable omissions. :D :D

Very strange really.  So a 3.2 of 2003 is ok, but others of the time are not and will cost their owners dearly every day they travel towards the City.  Just when everyone not on mega bucks is struggling to cope with their living costs!! >:( >:(

Bloody stupid! >:( >:(

General Car Chat / Petrol Prices
« on: 17 August 2023, 17:22:27 »
I have noticed, with a shock, that down here the petrol prices that had been coming down have now gone to average of £1.479p for a litre; that is an extra 4p per litre on last week.  Prices had been steadily going down.

So, what has happened now for  this to happen yet again? :-\ :-\

The usual suspects are the War, China, Saudi, the dollar, exchange rates............................................!!

Omega General Help / Engine Management Light On
« on: 07 August 2023, 13:23:50 »
A pipe came loose from the back of the plenum and the Engine Management Light came on.  Fixed the pipe, but the light is remaining on.

What do you think is wrong?  Will the light go out eventually?

How to fix please?

General Car Chat / Great SEREK SERVICE again
« on: 02 August 2023, 12:04:03 »
Yesterday I took my Omega to Serek in Huntingdon.  He in just a few hours for a great price, fitted a cam belt kit, fitted new rear brake pads, adjusted the parking brake, and replaced the steering fluid.
This guy is a saviour for us trying to keep our Omega’s going. He is so experienced, totally reliable, honest and generally a lovely man. :y  8)
I, and my 12 year old grandson who I took for company and for him to get some car knowledge, enjoyed Serek’s rest room as a place to rest in addition to going to the local Dunelm store for food.

A overall very enjoyable and fruitful day out! 8) 8) :D ;)

General Car Chat / 20 Years Ago
« on: 25 June 2023, 12:10:39 »
A sad anniversary today.

Tha last Omega was built 20 years ago today, the 25th June 2003. :'( :'( :'(

Mine was built in the month before, on the 14th May 2003, but not registered until the 1st September of that year.

At the moment, still going strong! 8) 8) :D ;)

Omega General Help / Steering Groaning
« on: 15 June 2023, 12:44:09 »
This morning, after a drive in hot weather, a moaning noise became apparent when turning the steering wheel when parking.

Is this an issue with the power steering gear, something else, or just down to the engine compartment becoming very hot please? ??? ???

General Car Chat / Another MOT pass
« on: 02 February 2023, 12:58:54 »
My Omega has passed again, but with a couple of advisories on two sections of "corroded but structurally rigidity is not significantly reduced" chassis struts near steering mounting points. :D

So that will form the first part of my maintenance and repairs for 2023, with a visit first to my local reputable body shop!  Cam belt and exhaust central silencer boxes are then next on the list. :)

The amazing thing is I only have travelled 1,600 miles since the previous MOT! :o :o  That is my lowest mileage ever, so gone are the days of over 100,000 miles over a year  that I did on business ;D ;)

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Headlight Range
« on: 08 January 2023, 14:17:15 »
I have that annoying “Headlight Range” warning message showing, which stays on until I cancel it.

I have had this before on my other Omega’s, and know their is a device on one of the front suspension arms.

On a 2003 3.2 what side is it on please?  Thinking how hard it may be to find a replacement part, can the old one be successfully cleaned up to make it work properly, or is it a case of hunting for a replacement please?  If so, has anyone got the part number for that device?

Many thanks. ;)

General Discussion Area / Russian Mobilisation
« on: 21 September 2022, 13:56:00 »
So Putin has finally come away from describing the Ukraine business a Special Military Operation, and has announced a full mobalisation of his forces.

He has now made a clear threat to the West by stating they have many weapons, and a Russian Minister on television has stated they are now going to fight the war based on the fact that NATO forces are supporting that country.

The gloves are off, so tin hats on time!

The observers on all this are stating that Putin has put himself into a corner, failed to quickly win the conflict, has indeed lost ground previously taken, and is now asking the Russian public to support a big call up of conscripts, when it is believed there is little taste for a full on war.  There is even now talk that his regime could collapse with all this.  Let's hope so. A full revolution would resolve a lot of issues.  Ukraine would be spared any more suffering, the energy crisis could diminish, and the price of food could decrease as more is available to the markets, with the starving of this World getting some relief.

Big hopes, a lot of if's, but this could be the start of the end game.  As long as Western, UN, and NATO support does not falter for Ukraine, and our politicians make the right decisions we MAY get the results we all want without a nuclear conflict on a worldwide scale.

General Car Chat / Cam Belt
« on: 16 September 2022, 17:05:16 »
Time for my cam belt change, so I asked my friendly Vx parts manager for a quote.  Sorry he says, bad news, they have been discontinued!

So yet another Omega part unavailable from them, but he is finding out a price for an alternative………but he cannot sell the kit to me, as it must be fitted by their service team!

Previously I had obtained the genuine parts from Vx and had Serek fit it all.

Serek is away at the moment, so when he returns I will obtain a price from him for supply and fitting.  The only trouble is by the time I have travelled to his outfit and back, I would have spent approx £80-90 on fuel and refreshments.

So, in the meantime I will be hunting around for more options, including Germany and the States.

But, the lack of Omega parts at the old GM dealers is becoming total, which will make it far more difficult to keep our old girls going :P :'(

Now looking at Autodoc, Euro Car Parts and others.  Good makes available, at all different, big variance,  prices!

General Discussion Area / HM Queen Elizabeth ll health
« on: 08 September 2022, 13:07:01 »
News is that the doctors are attending the Queen at Balmoral, with great concern being express :o :o

The Queen’s family have been fully informed, with Prince Charles and Camilla travelling to see her.

This is a worry at these troubling times.  Bad news to come possibly?

Let us hope not ;)

General Discussion Area / £6000 ave. energy bills
« on: 20 August 2022, 19:06:25 »
Now it is being broadcast that the average energy bills for homes will hit £6,000 at the beginning of 2023! :o

Now with tens of thousands starting to struggle, how the f’ing hell do our dear politicians think millions in this country are going to afford that?  Low income families with children are just going to implode! :o >:(

It is about time that the democratic leaders of the multiple nations being affected by this crisis on this planet actually do more than just talk.  There must be an answer than putting sticky plasters on the problem. It requires drastic action now.

Russia, or rather Putin, is the main cause of what everyone is suffering from in many ways. So, what is it that should be done by NATO and the UN?

I complain about war and mans passionately pursuing that option so often………but, now swallowing hard and gulping………should the mass armed forces of our nations attack Russia, or at least target the Kremlin with Putin and his bunch of thugs, with a first, hard, and massive strike………nuclear should be avoided, perhaps, but we know from history only a massive, determined, military action will destroy the forces of the enemy. ??  I understand from the various military and media reports that Russian forces are now much weakened, and in fact have been shown to have big flaws, with low morale and soldiers (with families at home) questioning why they are fighting their brothers in Ukraine. Should we bite the bullet now? Stand up to the tyrants? Give Ukraine a massive military boost to finally cripple Putin’s forces and reputation?

What are the thoughts on here?  We would risk WW3; China is an unknown factor, but the civilised world with the common people cannot carryon being seriously damaged, as being virtually squeezed out of existence by a lack of food, heating, lighting, fuel for everything!  £6,000 my arse!! :o :o >:(
>:(
