Title: Yorkmeet.
Post by: Amigo on 13 September 2010, 22:00:54
Something of a tenuous link but i promised so here goes.
I realize the site is'nt for everyone & what with the music etc it's not your usual OOFMEET, that said a few months back the Zoks & Andy/Annette said they'd come along regardless if it was on as would the Fletches, Ian & Stuey & maybe PW on his Bandit... 8-). However Newent seemed to be later this year so time off work & finances might affect another meet so close & the weather is on the turn so it could be a non starter. I hav'nt spoken to Ian yet but i did promise to "put it out there" after Newent. I realize it won't be on the same scale as last year but some of you did say you'd attend regardless so i'm just gauging interest...if any. If not no worries & hope Newent is a tad earlier next year. Guy.

If you look just above the club house/left of the tennis courts, there's a caravan in the picture and there are 5 EHU points (of a fashion) there. I think it must be listed as a CL/CS site so, if planned far enough ahead I think it should be possible for some to get electric, 1 did last time.

Any idea of a rough date for this Guy? I've been wanting to take SWMBO to the York Museum for a while and this would be an ideal stop over as long as it is in the school holidays. We'd be in a tent (Marquee) and want electric.

Wow. I'm pleasantly surprised at the interest, sorry i did'nt reply lastnight but i was otherwise...anyway if just a few of are going then i'll contact Ian & get the ball rolling.
Last year was a huge turnout inc. nearly all the admins. I realize due to nature of the venue it's not for everybody. This is mainly due to the shower facilities which are free but not very private for wives/children so Dad must stand guard in the doorway ala sports centre/swimming pool etc. We have use of the pavillion with said showers & toilets downstairs & a bar which is closed but a huge room with tables. seating areas & you can sleep there if your tent is cold at night. There is also a small kitchen with sink, cooker, fridge off the bar room. The site is on the B1224 @ Rufforth between York & the A1. A local shop is just up the lane & York is only minutes away. To give folk time we could try for end sept/early oct for those on shift work (Andy) let me know asap please & we'll see what we can do, get it booke & start a list.
On a more sombre note this i the last time many of us saw Willyboy who was sadly taken from us shortly afterwards. He knew he was on his last knockings & felt terrible but he still came along for a day visit with his lovely wife & lunatic hound. What a trooper. We love you Bill & hav'nt forgoten you. a true gent.

To be honest, its probably getting a bit late in the year for me to camp - I'm a bit long in the tooth to scrape the ice off the tent again ;D

If it looks a good turnout, might consider a travelodge type place nearby?

Love to see you there Jaime. You (& others can always pitch your tents for daytime use/cooking/time out etc but can grab your blow up bed, sleeping bag, pillow, teddy, comfort blanket & sleep indoors in he pavillion bar, cook brekky in the kitchen or outside once defrosted. No excuses & who else is going to compile the quiz? 8-)

Hello Everyone! I’m still here!  ;D ... My god, I’ve missed this forum, just don’t know where this year has gone. Seems like 2 mins since I was at the VBOA meet at Billing! :-X  Anyway...

Yes, I’m defiantly up for a York meet, I will try and get hold of the bloke who deals with the bookings and ask him what dates are available! :y

Be nice to have a catch-up with everyone! Especially since I’ve not been on OOF / ABS for a good few weeks, if not more!

Guy, I will try and give you a bell tomorrow!

Ok. Looks like we're getting close to starting a list. I've yet hear from Ian but i know he'll contact me when he's spoken to the site manager. I reckon we're looking at the last weekend in October. Andy B has texted to let me know he's got the time off & the Fletches should also be present although both Migs are due for MOT within 2 weeks of eachother & Chris has just started a new job...i'll get them there somehow!!!
The Yorkmeet is a bit cold & a bit rough'n ready but it's always a good laugh. There will of course be a BBQ & my usual Indian curry & maybe a hearty stew or chilli cooked in the pikeywagon!!! Work in progress but watch this space, Guy. :y

You'll have to get past me first Tim. Last time you set foot in there it was like Bosnia. The genny spluttered, the leccy tripped out & the cd player spat it's cover.

Alf, Guy is on temp loan to the north to bring a bit of stress and pain into all who cross his path, but these conditions can be reduced by asking where exactly he was born. The birds fly there for the winter so i have been told.

Ok you philistines. It says Croydon on my logbook so sth London/Surrey you decide! Yes Tim i am a legend in my own lunchtime. The only reason the wife scrapes the car is because we tell them 6 inches is a foot (white wine for the lady). Gary, Yvonne wants to see me coz big blokes give big hugs & she shares her name with my Mum so that's two of my fave girls. Pete, the ale's like dishwater up here so i stick to the voddy!!!!
Joking aside you are all welcome whether camping or staying with local friends/family or an Alan Partridge Travel Tavern...Jaime! Still be great to see you all either way. Guy. :y

Only other option would be to try and find another site, but I guess a lot wont allow the big tent thingy, and also wont have a pavilion to use if the weathers bad  :'(

Ah so it must be 'delusions of grandeur'. Probably comes from driving around in big flash miggies! Or it may be overexposure to carb cleaner when cleaning out the breather pipes?  ;)

Let's make history? The first ever OOF bonfire weekend meet. Those of us with caravans don't care about the cold but the pavilion is free to sleep indoors or you can have leccy hook up in your tent (if you have the right adapters) Maybe we could bring some suitable explosives & stage the first OOF firework meet, why not? The rest of the country will be although we'll have to clear the debris up in the morning.
To sum up the bonfire weekend is the only one free for us to book. There will be a gazebo & background music (not a rave) during the evening.

I'm up for going even in November. I know Ian is & Stuy could'nt keep away. I don't know how to start a list so if anyone reading this can please do so even if not attending & set it off with Amigo, caravan & hook up. Guy.

I would be interested in joining you for a bit of chat and a lemonade or two. As I live in York I would most likely retire to the comfort of my home for the night! I cannot guarantee that I will bring company as she thinks that I am need of remedial therapy anyway due to my infatuation with miggies and the OOF. Always happy to do a bit a spanner twirling!  ;)
