The blunt history of this car.

It was kindly given to be by a forum member / reputable motor trader, as scrap, a couple of months ago, because it had an immobiliser problem preventing it from starting, and when it did run, it was only running on three, and had no MOT.

I got it home, the immobiliser problem was a broken wire, so no issue there. The misfire was because the 2-4-6 coil pack wasn't plugged in, so easily sorted.

I then took it for an MOT, and got it through the test with just a headlight from a breaker, and some exhaust bandage.

I was assured the change of keeper to me was immediately done online, but for over a month didn't get a logbook.

Decided it was too tatty to keep and wanted it gone, so I listed it on eBay, zero reserve, in the mindset that if I got the £150 it cost me to all sort out, I'd be happy. The listing was very honest, described the numerous tatty aspects, listed the MOT advisory (corrosion) and the fact a logsheet needed to be applied for via V62.

On the second day of auction, a nice chap called Neil sends me a message, saying "What are you doing selling this car, it's mine, and I left it with a trader to either fix sell on my behalf"?!  :-X Which frankly filled me with terror :o :o.

We have a long chat on the phone, he's a very decent bloke, we agree that neither of us wanted the Omega, so reached an agreement whereby we sell it on ebay. The ending price was in the region of £550.

A Chap who sells ex police cars won the auction, and sent a couple of his lads to pick the car up, a perfectly hassle free sale in fairness.

The car has a bill for £1850ish, for work done 500 miles ago, but I've looked through this in detail tonight, and it does raise questions about the integrity of the garage who undertook it.

Here are the photos I took a few weeks ago.

I'll post details of the invoice / £2000 of work done, very shortly.

The garage, who undertook the work, need reporting to Trading standards.

I didn't realise this before, but having just looked at a copy of the invoice, they fleeced the previous owners.

3.5 hours labour to change the cambelt kit,  (which I can DIY in 2 hours!) PLUS another hour ON TOP to change the waterpump  ::)

The pump is accessible via 3 bolts and takes less than 5 minutes to change, once the cambelt cover is off, which it would have been anyway. So to charge an hours labour for that is downright criminal.

They've also charged half an hours labour for "road test" and likewise for a "systems test".

Which is why, despite being injured, I still choose to do my own work wherever I can  :-X

The car was given to me (not sold) because it wouldn't run.

The motor trader had the car to fix and / or sell for someone else, on their behalf - but that person was not aware / was not approached to see if they consented to the car being given away - and therefore, certainly in my opinion, still had good title to it.

Thankfully we were able to reach a satisfactory agreement directly between the two of us, once it came to light.

He certainly has a sense of humour trying to sell to an Irish buyer .
The annual road tax on a 3.2 is € 1809 ( £1550 ) and that increases dramatically if you pay twice or four times a year.

A year ago it had been left with him to sort a couple of issues. By early summer, he had allegedly bought it and needed to get it running and sold. It had a flat battery and the key didn't fit the door lock. The chip escaped in trying to access it. Net result, access was gained and a wire was broken whilst attempting to start it. I obtained a complete ecu/chip/lock set and fitted them at my expense. The car started and ran, but the MoT had just expired, so nothing more was done with it.

Having been unable to get a hold of the person in question since September the broken wire was left unrepaired.

It would be good to consider this a lucky escape James, and I would urge caution in light of our experiences.
