Sills easily go... as per my thread from this month:

Cheers Tunnie. I'll  have a read of that later on.

Also front chassis rails around where the subframe bolts on.

Ah. That's not good.

Omega General Help / Where do Omegas rust?
« on: 30 December 2017, 10:50:49 »
As per the thread title chaps. What are the common obvious and hidden areas in which late model F/L Omegas tend to rust?

I've  done a forum search and the most recent thread on this topic that I could find was back in 2008, so I wondered if any more problem areas had become apparent?

As my old 2003 CDX was rust free, I'm a bit in the dark about this, although the rear arches and the bottom of the doors seems to be an often quoted area of concern. Anywhere else I need to look out for, especially hard to spot areas?

Also, do a lot of VX dealers still honour the Autobahnstormers trade card, and have the price of parts changed much in the last six years?

In advance, many thanks.

General Car Chat / Re: Halfords red tool boxes...
« on: 30 December 2017, 00:52:28 »
I got Halfords Pro top and bottom box well over 10 years ago, and besides the red paint fading a slight pink, they're still going strong. On the other hand my Clarkes step-up box has felt cheap and flimsey pretty much since day one and the lock gave up the ghost a long time ago.

On saying that, my Clarkes ratchets which get plenty of hammer are still going strong.

Omega General Help / Re: Where have all the 3.2’s gone?
« on: 30 December 2017, 00:42:48 »
Me too......5 at the last count - admittedly though, two are for breaking.....! ::)

Dammit, that's just greedy.

Ideally I'd like an Elite with the manual box conversion and MV6 suspension.

I suppose the other option would be another CDX with leather and find a 3.2 motor and manual box to put in it, or at least the 3.0 cams.

Omega General Help / Where have all the 3.2’s gone?
« on: 28 December 2017, 22:29:13 »
At-up fellas

After a while away I’m back and on the hunt for another Omega, but this time preferably a 3.2 as opposed to a 2.6. The only problem is, where have all the 3.2’s gone? I’ve been looking on here, eBay, Autotrader, etc, but the 3.2’s are like hens teeth.

Answers on a postcard please?

I understand that to mean you have 10 tries left.  ;)
You need to line Vauhall's pocket for a Car Pass or DavveDND's to decode it.  ;)

Cheers Andy  :y

A great help as always  ;)

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / A quickie about SAFE mode?
« on: 21 February 2011, 01:37:43 »
I'm guessing that this has been asked a million times before, but I did a quick search and couldn't find the answer.

I have a 'CCR 2006' fitted to my Omega. No radio code present and the head unit is in safe mode.

I've done the thing with holding down AS whilst switching it on to see how many goes there are left of putting the code in, so here's my question....

After holding down AS for number of goes left, it says

"10 _ _ _ _ "

Does this mean that there are ten goes left, or that all ten tries to enter the correct radio code have already been used?

In advance, cheers  :y

Omega General Help / Re: auto box ecu upgrade to v9?
« on: 03 May 2011, 22:50:13 »
Just as I suspected, the box was low on fluid. Had to put about 1 1/4 litres in it.

Much better now with a smoother shift between 1st & 2nd, but still suffering the long first gear.

more so when warm. or if creeping in traffic then setting off, very intermittent.  :-/

Sheffield here as well  [smiley=vrolijk_26.gif]

I'm another one with the long 1st gear problem. Changing the gearbox oil and filter did little to cure the problem. Added to which when I went to start her this morning my TC light was on and I had little or no drive in 'D'.

IIRC when I changed the autobox oil and filter about 5000 miles ago, I noticed a slight weeping from the bellhousing / torque converter area, so I'm guessing it is running low on fluid. About to go out and check, so will report back with my findings.

Omega General Help / Re: Price of a full exhaust on a 2.6?

Yes it does fit. But you do need to buy an extension for the tailpipe from halfords as it stops short of the back bumper.
I fitted there system to my 2.6 last year.

Cheers  :)

Are the centre sections the same?

thats just parts cost mate.

There isn't really all that much to an exhaust. granted, it would be an easier job with two people, but tools wise and technical ability wise, it, (cross fingers), shouldn't be a difficult job. Time consuming, yes. Difficult, no.

4x high axle stands.
Rubber or soft faced mallet.
Lots of Plus-Gas / penitrating fluid.
A breaker bar, ratchet and a selection of sockets, (including deep) in the sizes(s) needed for the nuts / bolts.

I reckon it would be possible to do the job over a weekend? So the question is, would you want to and save yourself a couple of hundred quid? Don't forget to factor in the cost of any new gaskets, rubbers, mounts and exhaust paste.

well "My Naff Code Reader" is laptop based diagnostics that talks to the car (but cant discuss obtaining as its a rip off of some £700 software) which can be handy, gives logs such as jamesV6CDX posted in here.  Also reads and deletes fault codes, which can be handy with intermittant, or problems you think youve fixed as you know the codes has gone, and can then see if it returns.

MAF - bit of a long shot given the symptoms, but that can be problematic on 3.2 and 2.6 cars, look lie : http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Mass-Air-Flow-Meter-OPEL-Omega-3-2-00-03-Y32SE-MAF-/120668177128?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item1c186242e8
and sit just down from the airbox, unplugging them causes the car to run on a default map, so if they are sending duff info, can rule them out as a possibilty.

Apart from that, hows the car serviced?  filters newish?   or end of life?  ie Air and Fuel.  Have you run any injector / fuel system cleaners through?

Oil and filter changed 7,000 miles ago.
Air filter. I have checked this and it seems pretty clean and does not look like it needs changing.
Fuel filter?.....Not sure where this is.

By  fuel system cleaners do you mean the gunk you add to the petrol?......if yes ...then no.

I have located and unplugged the MAF. The cars runs exactly the same. The pedal trick gives the same codes....0300....0305.....0306. I have  reconnected it.

For Chrisgixer. I have replaced all six plugs Chris. Originally Bosch Super.....replaced with GM 011. As you say Plug 6 was a bas*ard to remove and looked like it had been in there since the dawn of time. I have left off the oil filler neck and the plastic casings holding the wiring for now as it makes lifting the 246 coil pack much easier and quicker to do

On my facelift 2.6 saloon the fuel filter is located just inboard of the drivers side rear wheel. To replace you will need the new clips from Vauxhall, (about 50p each, maybe less), and a proper set of fuel filter pliers from Machine Mart, which are £16 for a set of three IIRC.

If you can make it up to me, (north derbyshire), then you are welcome to borrow my old dis-pac. I had to buy a new one as I had shagged one of the rubber spark plug boots, but counldnt get a spare boot for love nor money.
