These are the seats fitted to my 2003 GLS, anyone seen them or anything like them before? Non heated and only electrical adjustment for up and down.

General Car Chat / Dilema
« on: 19 September 2012, 16:57:34 »
I've just bought an 03 DTi GLS Saloon from a friend of my old mans who's a used car dealer . The body work is very nice apart from a cracked front bumper and its supposed to have covered only 132,000 miles. Anyway driving it home from Anglesey on Sunday I noticed that the steering wheel, gear lever and handbrake gaiter were very worn, much more so than the ones on my other diesels which have covered 122,000 and 140,000 miles so I decided to look on the DVLA website when I got home. Anyway, turns out i've had my pants pulled down and the car had an mot in 2007 with 172,000 miles up it but when it was retested in 2008 it had only 84500 miles ::)

Now my question is. I intended to break my red 2000 CDX DTi with a genuine 122.000 miles to make the 2003 a better car which I was going to keep. But now I know the 2003 car has covered 221,000 miles i'm not so sure.

 Which one would you keep?

Cars for Sale & wanted / For Sale 2000 X 2.2 DTi Saloon
« on: 11 September 2012, 09:16:06 »
I've decided to put my CDX saloon up for sale as i've a newer version coming this weekend and haven't the space outside the house.

Its done 122,000 miles has MOT until April next year and tax until the end of October. I've fitted grey Elite leather and a rear electric blind. The old girl has a running issue in as much as it doesn't like going over 2500 RPM in 3rd and 4th and it won't go over 60 in 5th, the engine management light comes on. If you ease off the accelerator the light sometimes resets or you can turn the ignition off and restart it.  I've been using the car like this for the last couple of months as i've mostly been doing trips around town but I have travelled to Wolverhampton in it down the A41 and once you get used to driving it its not a problem. I think its an EGR valve or vacuum problem, I have cleaned the EGR valve but this hasn't made any difference. I've got loads of vacuum pipe ect but haven't got around to doing it. I'm looking for £500 for it oh and if there's enough interest I may break it.

General Discussion Area / I know I shouldn't laugh but
« on: 09 September 2012, 13:41:31 »
I live in a little village which is blighted by cycling clubs. Every Sunday from 7.30 am ish there are groups of cyclists riding through the village shouting to each other about what they've been up to the week before spoiling my Sunday morning lie in >:(

I live almost on a corner and I was sat in the car facing the junction fitting cruise and variable wash wipe in the car, a transit had just turned the corner and had to wait in front of my car while a car came past going in the opposite direction when a load of Bradley Wiggins wannabes came flying around the corner almost knee down to be faced with the back of a Transit, not being able to stop they took evasive action which meant one went over the footpath and head first over next doors wall. Luckily he wasn't hurt but he wasn't too happy at me pishing myself laughing. The cyclists tried to blame the van driver so I gave him my number just in case it involves the insurance.

Its made my day ;D ;D

General Car Chat / I'm starting to love my desmond diesel
« on: 25 August 2012, 09:52:06 »
Two weeks ago today I put £80 worth of diesel in ready for a trip up to Durham, on the Monday going through Bishop Auckland on our way over to the Lakes I put another £40 in just because i've never seen diesel so cheap. Today the fuel light has just come on and we've covered 852 miles, the last weeks journeys have been mostly back and two across town. Approx 45mpg, not bad for a 1.5 tonne estate :) :)

General Discussion Area / No profit servicing for OOfers
« on: 17 July 2012, 10:40:01 »
Not wanting to count my chickens before they hatch but it seems like that after months of searching for a reasonable job one might be on the horizon so i'm just testing the water at the moment.

Because I might no longer have to do repairs on cars to pay my bills I was thinking its time to give a little something back to OOF.

I was thinking of doing cambelts, camcover gaskets, servicing ect on a couple of free Saturdays and it would be done on a no profit making way. I won't be travelling and all the jobs will have to be done at my garage in Northwich, all I would be asking is for the price of a gallon of diesel because the garage is a 54 mile round trip from where I live and a contribution to the garage rent which is £200 a month. The reason i'm asking is, if there's no interest I might as well give the garage up and save myself a few quid. Just a thought and I welcome any feed back :y

I saw this bloke on the TV yesterday morning and after watching for a while he came out with a brilliant quote. He said "If you rob a bank you'll go to prison but when the banks rob you the directors get paid millions in bonuses" He's decided after being told he can't to open a bank and I for one hope he pulls it off :)
