"oh yes, yes I have... last month..." etc, etc... keep them going then "yes, I was decapitated". Prizes for the most abuse you can get from the scamming tossers.

I've taken a different approach... took the internals out, check it's leakproof... bolt together with no impeller and leave it in place. It'll work!

As I say I never need it. And if the car does more than 1000 miles a year it'll be a miracle :y
If the car starts up it will be a miracle  ;D

You're not wrong there...

"hang on, I can't quite hear you, I'll just climb down... oh... OH... ARRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH" then bang the phone off the wall. Add in suitable B-movie sounds of injury for good measure.

Does it leak?

Why go to the trouble of removing it if it isn't causing any harm?

Because its broken!

Omega General Help / Removing the auxiliary coolant pump, V6
« on: 29 June 2022, 11:34:18 »
So, as usual, two steps forward, one giant leap back.

Thought I'd disassemble the auxiliary pump under the coolant tank and clean it out, as it was clearly filled with sludge (rest of the system has been flushed as I've gone on, thank goodness).

As I did so I found that the internals were less complete than I would have liked. Like, completely broken and came out in bits...

Looking online it seems I either pay £40 for an unknown used one from Germany... or £60 for a new one.

Instead - reading up, I can live without it, I never use the car enough to need to run the heater without the engine on... so I'm thinking of bypassing it entirely. New length of hose from the bulkhead... to... where? :)

Has anything else changed? Had anything fitted or serviced? Any reason to disturb the wiring?

Gone over any bumps that could have ripped the plugs out?

I am trying to stop buying knackered old cars but if a reasonable ex plod Senny came along I think it would be rude not to...
why ex plod?
It’s a thing ;)
My guess is that it's a 3 pedal thing ....  :-\

And would go nicely in the collection... Titled "things I probably willl never finish"

Did a bit more on the moneypit.
Discovered by a quick look at the handbrake guide... That there should be a pair of return springs where mine has always had split pins holding the cable on. I clearly remember cursing whoever had fitted cheap horrible ones the first time I changed the handbrake cable, many moons ago. I cursed them again today for good measure.
