General Discussion Area / New ISP time
« on: 03 September 2017, 17:06:35 »
My current deal of £12/month for 2 years for internet and phone line rental is ending soon....

Anyone know of any good deals about?

I have done a search and the best I found was a SKY offering for 12months....£15/month +£20 setup fee....  :-\

I don't need super fast broadband, just the bog standard over copper wires is good enough for me......

General Discussion Area / Rechargeable phone batteries
« on: 27 August 2017, 16:47:09 »
These are for my landline cordless phones (3 in total)

As I discovered yesterday (don't use them much, as I usually use my mobile) the batteries are knackered. Only good for a quick phone call, more than 5 mins the phones turn off.

So, to replace them, which rechargeable battery type would be most suited to being on charge all the time, as I think the phone chargers never turn off (the battery compartment is always warm to the touch whenever I do pick them up)

Any ideas chaps  :)

General Discussion Area / Help with a cooker....
« on: 12 August 2017, 16:28:40 »
Its a Belling FSE 60MF

One of the rings is either fully on or off (when turned off)
So, say you put the ring on position 1 it heats up read hot and stays like that.

Now I thought it was going to be the control knob and would be fairly easy to change.
So, I take the top off, pop the knob of the control off. Theres no visible screws to undo which I thought taking the knob off would reveal.
The switch is also tightly packed with other gubbins in the way.

Then I notice the heating element.....its this one

http://www.bellingspares.co.uk/cooker-oven/fse60mf-blk-444449576/ceramic-hotplate-element-single-1800w/product.pl?pid=1162876&path=600217&model_ref=3529439

That's looks like some sort of thermostat running across the top in a glass tube  :-\

So now I'm undecided, is the fault the control knob or the heating element  :-\

Any ideas chaps.......

General Car Chat / Oh dear DPF
« on: 06 August 2017, 16:59:44 »
I guess a DPF doesn't catch all the soot ...

Driving on a B road earlier.....past Shack's part of the world...on my way to Chilton Foliat (great name for a village I reckon, btw)

Came up behind 10 cyclists riding two a breast....and as Shack will know its quite a quick B road but its not that wide and does have some fairly tight corners...

So I'm behind the cyclists and see a gap, ie nothing coming towards me but there is a bend in the distance...

So I drop to 3rd and floor the mighty 1.6TD to get past asap ..... get past and check rear view mirror to make sure I'm safe to pull back onto the nearside....ummm I seem to have left the cyclists in a great big cloud of soot....oh dear  ;D ;D ;D

General Car Chat / One touch window
« on: 05 August 2017, 16:28:43 »
After I had the drivers window replaced, the one touch either up or down didn't work.

I tried opening the window fully and shutting fully leaving the button pressed for about 10secs after the window had fully opened/closed.

Now the one touch works for opening the window but not closing....

I am assuming its same operation on the Ford as it is on the omega, to 'learn' the windows  :-\

Any ideas chaps or something left not connected when they had the drivers door panel off  :-\

General Car Chat / This isnt good enough!
« on: 22 July 2017, 17:16:05 »
Two afternoons/evenings running its been raining....so I carnt spark up the bbq..... :(
Been doing so mostly for the last 3 weeks.....its easier than cooking indoors....

Tho on the upside....I was chatting to garage owner today....asking him if he could cut four slot in a new flame diffuser for the bbq....ive only been able to find a generic flame diffuser the correct size.....but doesn't have any supporting slots at each end of it.

The one currently on the bbq has rusted away on the long sides.....meaning the flames reach passed it and heats the cooking plates to hot...

Yes , he said I can cut slots in the new one.....but when I said its costing me £20 for the new diffuser...he said bring up the old one...maybe I can run a line of weld back along it to build it back up .... free of charge to you, not sure how that works trying to weld along a rusty edge....but i'll see....weld doesn't have to be strong I guess....

Apparently it was a yoof scumbag on a pushbike that broke into my car at 11.30pm last night!
Smashed drivers window but couldn't open the door as I always dead lock it...
Rummaged about in the driver door pocket....found nowt!
Managed to open centre arm rest and found my card payment machine....but left it..

So nothing taken....but a whole morning for me wasted getting the window replaced and just finished vacuuming out the glass  >:(

Some will know what geocaching is or not

In geocaching you can 'release' travel bugs which other cachers move to other caches....and so it goes on...

I released one called HollyDog.....altho the original went missing I released another one....

The 'new' one has been moving about for over 6 years and recently asked for it back....which ive just received this week  :)

In the time HollyDog has been moving around.....she's travelled nearly 51k miles  :)

See linky if interested at all.....you can view the map to see where she's been  :)

« on: 24 June 2017, 17:08:40 »
Not sure if this is a good deal or not....

Just been sent an email from Halfords giving a further 15% off....

So, for example, you could choose the 200 piece Advanced Socket set already reduced from £350 to £175 and then get another 15% off. so £148.75......

Anyway the code is 15TOOLS and ends on Friday.....

« on: 18 June 2017, 17:47:10 »
Walked in to PC World earlier looking for a replacement Bluetooth optical mouse for my lappy....

First salesman....

"Can I help you Sir?"
Yes I'm looking for a mouse for my laptop..
"There over there Sir"
And promptly f cked off .... Not a lot of commission on a mouse then  ;D

Me looking at mouse's and another salesman turned up...
"Can I help you Sir?"
I'm looking for a cordless mouse for my laptop
"There all cordless Sir"
Really...that one there has a wire on it..
He didn't say a word and buggared off as well  ;D

Meetings, gatherings, parties etc / Curry night in Swindon?
« on: 08 June 2017, 17:36:53 »
Restaurant I have in mind is number one on trip advisor for curry houses in Swindon...I have been there before and had a good evening...

There is a travel lodge not too far away.... for anyone wanting to stay over... or closer hotels but will be more than travel lodge I expect.

They do a deal on a couple of school nights.....but I expect preference will be fri or sat evening....

Anybody interested?
