Never tried it myself but after watching Mrs. KW's efforts (and she's done a winter season in Austria), roll up some newspaper and shove it down the back of your trousers.  ;D

I took the view that I can ski competently. Why ruin half my skiing holiday going through the learning curve again?

Kevin

I take a different approach.

Why go to a rather cold wet mountain and get shafted on the cost in the first place  :y :y :y :y

Well, actually, if the mountain's in Milton Keynes, I'm inclined to agree.

 ;)

Need to find a good one in hampshire.

I once spoke to MIcheldever tyres, just off the A303, who have a geo bay (super cheap tyres too!)  Spoke to him at length about omegas and the camber, he seemed to know what he was talking about.  Havent tried it yet but worth checking out.

I had mine done there when I first got the car. Wasn't very impressed TBH. He put it on the machine and adjusted the toe and just as I was leaving, he pointed out that the camber was excessive and that I'd probably get shoulder wear. I asked him why the hell he didn't adjust it and he said it was just inside the limits on the machine. ::)

If you go there make sure you specify that they adjust the camber to sensible levels regardless of whether it's in the green or not!

I was speaking to a guy who said the place by Farnham station (in the station car park, practically) sorted out his Omega camber.

2nd hand information but might be worth a punt. :-/

Then again, it's 1/2 way to WIM.

Vaid points, edwardmickey. I think what frustrated me about the subject of this thread is that there is precious little visible Police presence on the roads these days, which, IMHO, is exactly why people feel they can flout the law in such blatant ways, and now we see Officers employed to hide in a horse box.  >:(

I have maintained a clean licence since I started driving, however, once or twice in my youth I got stopped by the Police and dressed-down over some aspect of my driving, and whilst no offence was committed, no fixed penalty issued and no contribution to Police targets made, the messages I learnt stay with me to this day.

I feel that recieving a bill through the post a week or two after an offence is likely to be purely an irritation and won't change people's ways due to the blase attitude you mention.

.. and I really didn't want to get in to discussion of illegally avoiding detection.

Yep. Next time you see a Horse's @rse pointing at you, check very carefully. Is that a lens or a brown eye? :-X

The easiest way is to join Autobahnstormers. 20 quid a year and you can use your membership card to get trade club prices. :y

Failing that, find someone near you who's got one. They may be interested in splitting a set of 4 oils.

GM Semi Synthetic is about the best value you could hope for. With a trade card it's about 8 quid per 5 litres at the moment if bought 4 bottles at a time.

There are superior oils but if you're changing it regularly you don't need to be paying a lot for oil.

I've never understood why there isn't a speed camera outside every school.

On my commute to work there is a school on a 40mph limit and frequent bunches of flowers by the road. No 30MPH limit, no traffic calming, no camera.

1/4 of a mile up the road is a dead straight, flat, rather upmarket road that has become a main route into the town where there are very few pedestrians and kind, but where it is rumoured that a few influential people live. It's had a 30MPH limit slapped on it, they tried speed humps, then ripped them up and put in traffic calming, then ripped that up and put flashing signs up. Only accidents I ever heard of there were due to the traffic calming forcing traffic to the other side of the road. >:(

Can't you get your witnesses to make statements for you, present them to the police with a request for an explanation as to why they won't take it further, and get your local newspaper involved.
In my area, the local Homewatch group can get police CCTV cameras set up in your window to record anti-social behaviour. Worth a try? Takes time, unfortunately.

Sounds worth a try. A bit of bad publicity might prod the plod into action next time someone's in the same position.
