2002 2.6 MV6 94000 Miles - New Home Required
« on: 30 March 2015, 11:33:53 »

Hi all,

Shortly after the birth of my daughter 9 months ago we decided to buy a diesel (ashamed but true) since then the MV6 has been decommissioned and at the beginning I was still using it here and there trying to keep the battery topped up but inevitably I left it too long and the last time I took her out I had to start with jump leads but during the run she wasn't behaving right, the dash speedo and rev counter would jump around now and then and the dash lights would light up randomly. The engine was fine and got me back home after an hour run but wouldn't start back up after that, the alternator is new so I don't think its a charge issue. Battery light was not on during the run. My personal opinion is there is nothing wrong with the car but the battery is dead. I am trying to get me hands on a charger to test it but haven't as yet. I can't really justify spending any serious cash on the car at the moment but in the same breath I will not scrap her, doing my best not to break her either. I would like her to live on and keep on rolling for years to come.

I will be as honest as I can and I really hope someone will buy to use and if they do break it I don't wanna know hehe! There is no point listing it like autotrader, you guys know what the score is.

Everything works apart from the nearside electric mirror doesn't go left or right and the drivers side heated seat has failed. She blue smokes a little on startup which is stem oil seals and I never had done because it doesn't cause any damage and it was just to expensive. No smoke while driving. The windscreen has a horseshoe crack near where the tax disc used to go (Not MOT failure). A clever person would easily get a new on through insurance. Never had auto gearbox issues, service history is lacking as allot of it has been done by forum members etc but it has been serviced when required. Pete Ellis was the last to do a full major service, brakes all round plus gearbox fluid top up.

As for a price I am looking for sensible offers, I know the car needs a little TLC to get going again but I know she has another 100k left in her! Would be a shame to take her off the road for good.

This is the latest pic I have but it wasn't cleaned before hand. unfortunately now she's behind the gates and its really tight so taking pics is not possible. When the weather is better I plan on valeting. All other pics below are from some time ago but nothing has changed much.

This is from the calendar shoot a few years ago

Engine - Pipercross is not fitted at the moment but I do have it and can go with the car

For some reason I can't edit the original post now!

Forgot to add it also has a fixed tow bar on with new style 13 pin electrics.

I would like £500, especially considering the tow bar!

My apologies about missing the MOT I was at work when posted and I couldn't remember. I now can't find the latest mot certificate which is odd but I've just checked online and its the 11th April.

Ok, so far I have spent a sum of money that is more than this car is being sold for - and my girl isn't at the standard of this car yet. So safe to say this is a bargain.

Sadly any cheaper and it becomes 'worth' stripping. I bleedin hate the idea of stripping these cars, so would never suggest it - my point being as far as I can see, this car is as cheap as it ever could be, she looks terrific, lets hope she gets a good new home soon.  :)

It only smokes after been stood a while but not if its been stood a long time. It uses a small amount of oil. The stem oil seals leak a tiny bit of oil into the cylinders when the engine is stopped and this is burnt off when the engine starts. It doesn't seem to affect the car in any way though.
