NCDC2013 Advice please
« on: 07 April 2017, 21:16:59 »

There is one of these units available, although the CD changer is stuck.

Buying the unit itself would only be for spare parts, but it comes with a colour screen.  This is what interests me.

How easy is it to change my current small, half  b&w screen, to the colour one?

I have a piece of plastic covering the opening were a full screen can go.  Is that going to stop any easy conversion please?

Hard. The colour screen must be put into 'delivery mode' to pair with a new 2013, I remember fatty admin had a partial success rate, some ended up bricked.

Might be worth looking to get CD changer refurbished instead, but all these units are so old now no one will touch them. Even if they do,  won't really know what they are doing.

Lot of hassle for very little gain.

I thought it could be. Thanks Tunnie, that's good enough for me. Another thing I will leave well alone! :y :y

Whilst what Tunnie has said is correct, if the 2013 (with busted cdc) is from the same vehicle as the colour screen then they will be fine... simply swap your cdc unit with the dead one and fit 2013 and colour screen.

Ideally this proposed purchase will include the car pass... just in case ::)

Wot he said. ^ Ive done this recently. The hard part is getting your old unit out without ripping the front panel off.

Basically - pull your ncdc out and push the new one in its place. Remove instrument panel, remove the current GID display, by removing the four screws which hold it to the instrument panel. Unplug the electrical plug from the GID display.
Attach the CID to the rear of the instrument panel by reinserting the screws. Plug the electrical connector into the CID display. Then locate the other electrical connector, which will be tucked away nearby, with foam taped around it, and plug that into the CID too. Replace the instrument panel. Job done.
This assumes the new NCDC and CID came from the same car. If they didn't, its a whole different ballgame, which cant kick off until its had a tech2 session.
The plastic panel you refer to which covers half the gid screen, is actually part of the gid screen.

Yep - your car will have Bose and the new unit probably will too, but worth checking as its not always the case.
One possible issue which I have discovered to my cost, is that if the new system came from a car with a different engine, then the fuel computer settings wont work properly.
Mine came from a diesel, so it needs a chat with Tech2 to reconfigure it to a 3.2.
So - If the system came out of a 3.2 elite its very straightforward, plug & play, apart from pulling your NCDC out of the dash. You really want good quality tools for this, and even then, you might need to file the ends a little to make them more of a defined diamond shape, to get a good grip on the unit.
Less than an hours work to install.

The security coding of the Infotainment system in higher specced Elites is done by pairing the devices.

For NCDC2013, these devices are:
NCDC2013
GID/CID
CDC3 (bottom half of NCDC2013, but actually is a separate device)

For NCDC2015, these consist of:
NCDC2015
GID/CID
CDC3 (again, bottom half of NCDC2015)
Telematics

All devices must be paired to each other to work.  All devices must remain together, you cannot just swap out one of the devices.

To replace a device, all devices need to be unpaired, to put them back into delivery mode.  The replacement part also needs to be in delivery mode.

I did an awful lot of work a few years ago to understand the security of these, in order to discover unknown pairing codes (as my NCDR1500/GID/CDC3/Telematics in my MFL MV6 had unknown pairing code, and I wanted to fit a CID), so I probably do know more about these than most.  And yes, I did brick a fair few as well.

Thanks for everyone's replies and guidance :y :y

TB - Thank you, but I think when all considered it is just too much effort for limited gain, so will pass on your offer.  I will fit my acquired rear blind and just settle for that,, dealing then with the things I enjoy; pure mechanics! :D :D :D ;)

The map display and pop-up when you approach an intersection is really useful.  And the fact it shows you distance to go on the main Nav screen when in Pictorial view is a boon to save going through all the menus.

BUT if I was in your shoes, I think I agree with you.  I fitted CIDs to my fleet, as programming is not an issue for me, and to make the Omegas as good as they could be.

I fitted one to mine as it doesn't quite seem like "top of the range" without it. I think the GID screen looks very old school.  I still say if the one for sale is from a 3.2 Elite, its a very simple easy upgrade, and just need to take car and have patience when pulling the old NCDC out.
Simple plug & play apart from that.

Worth double checking RGB cable is there. But I believe LZ's is late car (hence no blind), so very likely RGB is there.

I've come across a few FL Elites without, but probably all early ones.  I know, I should really have paid more attention ;D

The CD player was "stuck", and looking at the pictures it looked like someone had been tampering with the whole housing.  It was only the colour screen I was really interested in. ;)

(or knowing me, depaired it all, and sell the depaired CID for a gazillion quid on the Gay or E ;))

Ive been round the block a few times with these retro fitting of 2013/15 and CIDs and secondhand ones from unknown sources now, and if I'm honest they can be more trouble then there worth, they all seem to be showing there age a bit now, and with unknown history can be a bit of a gambling doorstop.  :(

Yea there a few good ones still out there, but becoming rarer by the minuite in good form. Unfortunately I don't have the luxury of a Tech 2 and or ways of, cough, getting around the Codes, that would make life at lot easier when it come to de pairing good modules.  :-\j

I'm happy with my recently fitted one, apart from the Opel logo and fuel readout from a diesel engine. Just need to arrange a tech2 session at some point to resolve that.

That message is basically coming across from you Zirk and all that know these things and has made me, sadly perhaps, to shelve the idea of a nice colour display.  You are right, it is a gamble and I do not gamble :y

Maybe a nice shiny colour display onto your proven headunit, Ms Zoom.  Oh look, I might have one :P.

(Joking ;). I'd need more than £60 to prise a good, depaired CID from me ;)

I'm happy with my recently fitted one, apart from the Opel logo and fuel readout from a diesel engine. Just need to arrange a tech2 session at some point to resolve that.
I *might* be down in the land of the webbed feet in a couple of weeks during the week, desperately close to Lazyarse territory.  Not sure how that works...

You tease! :o :o ;D ;D ;D ;)
