I had a similar issue and seeing as my car (also a 2.6 model) didn't have the variable intermittent wipe I replaced the tall yellow wiper relay with a vw type 99 unit

mine parked ok but mine doesnt have a variable delay just a set amount.the vw 99 relay is a known mod snd is a learning module. you flick up and back to intermittent.then after desired interval you switch intermittent on properly.the relay remembers the time delay and carries  on from there.

Essex Al once again came up with the business and supplied FOC( i might add) the tall relay which i've just fitted ,all works correctly intermittent and park position
So thanks all for help OOF working superbly again :y :)
