Interesting Comparison
« on: 17 October 2017, 10:28:45 »

I saw this on the BBC home page earlier, an emissions comparison to a 24 year old Golf petrol and a 9 year old Octavia Diesel.

Quite clear cut and expected result but then when they compare the Octavia to new diesels it`s a bit of an eye opener.

Interesting about the Renault diesels on there, esp. as my wife’s 1.5 dci captur attracts zero road tax, emitting less than 100gkm. Obviously only in the official test.

The 1.6 Nissan unit is still the Renault engine (all be it a development of the 1.5), the emissions are only higher as its a larger, heavier and less aerodynamic car.

Manfacturers have always played the game with tests, I remember back in the 80`s when sports bikes were hampered with the noise tests so the manufacturers built the bikes with a flat spot that just so happened to coincide with the range of the test, easily sorted out with an aftermarket exhaust.

More worrying with these is that they are health related and a 9 year old diesel is better than a new one in the real world.

The government needs to take it's share of responsibility.

It.....mainly Gordon Brown, actively encouraged people to go derv.

That would be interesting, all these people championing electric vehicles forget about the minerals that have to be mined to make them possible, so they`re not pollution free like some would have you believe  ;)

Thank you to the Admin that corrected my typo  :y
