Ex-plod?
« on: 18 October 2017, 19:59:10 »

The local Ford stealers has taken in[whether under their scrappage scheme or not I don't know] a 3.2 Omega.A quick glance round shows there are no badges on the doors to denote spec, lacquer peel on the rear offside wing,a couple of small dents in o/s/r door[nothing major]there is also a small rubber grommet on the roof just aft of the windscreen header rail.A similarly quick glance inside shows a single din head unit as opposed to the double din type, cloth upholstery and the fact that the car has a manual gearbox. An M.o.T. history check shows that while wearing a "53" plate it was registered in 2004 and has not been M.o.T.'d since July this year.Reg begins WU 53.

Manual 3.2 was never available retail, so would have to be a special of some description.

Can't recall full reg at present but will have a look tomorrow when I'm there. It was actually seeing the manual gear stick that made me think it might be ex-plod.I had a quick look at it and checked the M.o.T. history as I thought about asking them if it could be had as a trade sale[why do I need 3 cars :-\]but with no M.o.T. since July it could be too much of a dodgy prospect!

Manual 3.2 were used by various government departments, not just police...

If they've taking it in under scrappage, it will be difficult to buy, unless you are really friendly with the manager,

The 3.2 Ex Police whether Auto or Manual where registered as an Omega Special's, 3.0 where reg'd as MV6, pre 97/98 3.0 Plods where called what just about anything including Elites, MV6 Elites, MV6 or just Omega.

Car in question probably owned by Avon & Somerset Police.

Colour? and Reg.

Colour is dark blue, full reg I'll get tomorrow. If it was taken in under the scrappage scheme then that'll be the end of it,if it's available as a trade sale then depending on how much they want[can't be worth a lot with no M.o.T. surely?]I might see if I can talk them into getting it in the air on a ramp to make sure it's not rotten as a pear and see if I can spot any likely failures.

Easiest way to confirm whether Plod or not is to look up at the Roof lining, they came delivered to the Force with removable plastic panels in the lining, one about the size of a sunroof at the front other was bit smaller at the back, unless the post plod owner changed it. 16" GLS Alloys where also fitted to the specials, and some late Face Lift Plods had a made up looking center consul (the arm rest bit) which was designed on the shape of the older Mini and Pre Facelift Omegas.  ;)

As you say if it came in under the scrapage scheme then its game over for the car, but they may have given a generous trade in instead depending what was bought

Saloon or estate? If saloon look in the right hand boot cubby for a sodding great rust hole, oh. And a box of spares including rear window motors, door looms and sunvisors. Might also have an NCDC fitted (but no screen)

The current scrappage schemes aren’t official govt ones like back in ‘09 - so just make them an offer ......

It turns out the car was indeed taken in under the scrappage scheme, which while not mandatory the local stealers are sticking by Fords statement that all cars taken in under the scheme will be scrapped. So it seems this one will be appearing on supermarkets shelves near you in the not too distant future. However for completeness[of a kind]it's a dark blue saloon, first registered 1st Feb 2004 and carries the reg. number WU 53 JWG with a mileage showing of just over 141,000.

As suspected it is Ex Plod, taken from one of my car checkers which gives a little bit more info over the DVLA Car Check one.
