Out of interest, did you consider the XE?

Was this too small for your needs?

To small and the same price (in fact more after haggling)  :y

His is quite a bit older though, it's the trade off of getting something newer but smaller.

As XJ or same age would be fair amount more than XF.

Yes, but he could break rocks so it's not a fair comparison 8)

At a quick glance I find it hard to distinguish between the new XE and new XF.

They appear very similar.

Same  :y

I am rather fond of the first generation XF-S, really nice looking cars. Small touches like lip rear spoiler, like my Elite.

They do, but the XE is better proportioned. Suits bright colours better even though you rarely see them like that.

Same colour as my old 2013 XFR, and the best coiour there is for an XF in my view.

Agree  :y. For me, that dark(ish) metallic red is close behind and on my own car I'd take the red dye to laziness. If someone else is cleaning it though, black every time :).
I couldn't agree more, though most reds come with the beige interior, which I really don't want.

The XE seems to be a reliable, well put together car, but rear room is compromised compared to XF. Generally spec is a little down as well - though most later XFs are usually uniquely specced, as are XEs.

If you look hard, you can also find them trimmed in David Dickinson esque "Tan". WTF you would want to, is another question!

There's a reasonably priced XJ Portfolio that's been for sale for over a year with that tan interior!
