front door micro switches
« on: 02 January 2018, 14:03:43 »

I need a bit of advise, when I unlock with either fob or with the key I can't open the front door. It can be opened with the handle inside. Which micro switches are the problem? Solenoid or on the back of the door lock? Thanks  :)

Sounds to me as if the connecting rod from the door catch to the outside handle has become disconnected.

This might help, 8th picture down.

If all the connecting rods are in place you may have to look at the central locking motor.

There is a great write up in the "Maintenance Guides" section.

Go to page 4 and look for "Repairing a central locking motor" by Kevin Wood.

He also gives details on how to get them out as well.

I think I have refurbished all my front door locking motors om my two Omegas over the years using this guide.

When you turn the key / press the remote button, can you hear the motors moving ?

Does sound like the rod has popped off at the lock end to me  ???

When I turn the key or operate the fob I can hear the motors working. looks like I need to take the door card off again and check linkage to the solenoid, I have new switches so can change them at the same time. My bit of string attached to the inside handle is working at the moment :y

Its unclear.

Unlock with fob fails.
Unlock by lifting button inside works?

If yes to both, follow carfix's suggestion.

If no to either, please clarify, else you'll get inaccurate answers like "rod popped off", which would be the case if, say, the car unlocks via any method, but cant be opened from outside, but can from inside (without touching locking button further).

I've replaced the micro switches on the solenoid but still not able to open the door when unlocked. When using the key fob the solenoid operates lifting the button and locks with the button descending. The solenoid is working properly, all the rods are in place and connected. I can open the door only from the inside. Any ideas which bit is broken? :-\

I cant remember the lay out but surely it must be the linkage from the outside door handle that is at fault :-\

I took the door handle off again and checked the linking rod. It looked ok but I noticed it had a screw thread for adjustment. I unscewed it a few turns and refitted. The door now opens properly with the outside handle. Thanks for your suggestions which pointed me.in the right direction. :)
