Tax DD
« on: 04 January 2018, 00:45:19 »

Took my car for it's MOT and it passed with flying colours. :y

Got a letter  , , , ,blah blah, saying to ignore if MOT was  etc etc ::)

January DD not been processed yet, thought was due to bank holidays etc. :-X

Spent 20 minutes getting nowhere on the phone to DVLA to see whats happening with no joy, so gave in. :-X

Online the site says my car is tested.  Has anyone had delays with thier DD? :y

Mine went on the 2nd. Possibly varies bank to bank.

If you do interweb banking, the double check it's still a current dd ;)

Sounds like the New Mot probably didn't hit the System due to the Xmas period, the Mot details normally get updated in mins, the Tax side can take up to 5 days to sort itself out, so the Tax system may have cancelled the taking of Funds thinking the Car isnt MOT'd.

As fat as I know they dont cancel the Direct Debit Mandate, they just stop taking funds from it, it may have a second atempt half way through the month.

Another option is to try and Tax the car online again using the same Doc Ref Number you used last time (ie, NOT a Change of Keeper), if its already Taxed, it will refuse to Tax again and tell you, thats not say the Tax could drop of the system any day now though, for the time being your just have to check it every time before using the car.

I find the new system very easy to use and have had no problems. A certain Lord Opti said he liked the old system because your tax disc reminded you of when it was due, but there’s no need because the money will keep going out of your bank account until you stop it.

This is true, but they should be able to calculate the tax on a daily basis rather than a monthly basis, to avoid the government double tax scam when you sell or buy a car!  >:(

Renewed my insurance with a different broker today. Asked him how long to get on the database and his reply was  "could take a fortnight".  As my old cover runs out in ten days i could have four days of what if. ;D The MOT i had done last month went on in a couple of hours.

Now I'm not sure how this actually works,  but I 'un sorned' mine on Dec 22nd using the monthly DD system, got an email stating they would take double the amount on the 11th Jan, I presume to cover Dec and Jan, however I have sorned it again, yesterday as I am now away again for a few months.
Read the associated email and that stated the DD would be cancelled with effect from that day, so that means (if I have it correct) that I will not pay any VED for the short time I was on the road just about 14 days, although if pinged by the ANPR boys it would have shown as legal in all aspects..........
Or will I have a nice banking surprise on the 11th when they DD the full 2 months!!!???!!!
