I had one of my share save scheme mature early Feb and cashed out, should have kept those shares. But you never know, rumours were Amazon were making a bid for premier league rights. Still made a very tidy profit though!

I've still got shed ton more shares though, so looking forward to a bidding war. Comcast though only want a controlling share, not full buy-out. So unclear if I would be bought out, Rupert deal does mean I am bought out.

Suspect this will force Uncle Rupert to bid more, which is good news for my 3.2 replacement fund.

That said I’m really loving the 3.2 now, it was always the extra car. Superior in many ways on paper to my 2.2, but not in ways that cannot be measured.

Now it’s my commuter, I’m using it for more, I’ve sorted Bluetooth music so Bose sounds awesome. It does absolutely everything I want, as long as I still car share the fuel use is not a problem.

While I like Jags, maintenance could be an issue for me. As I found with the VW, I could only do basic jobs.

Though I do agree, keep the Omega as the commuter, rack up the miles and commuter joust marks on that

Omega I can do brake discs front and rear, shocks, rear springs, drop links, donut bushes, all filters etc.

VW, Brake discs looked PITA even rear shocks no way as easy as Omega. Plus and this is huge issue, crap forums for technical info.

It’s nice having a CBA attitude with 3.2, parking, washing, etc. No worries you get with new car

The XJ X351 forums are really informative, both US and UK ones.  They can tell you exactly what you need to do when the screenwash warning comes up - take it to the shooooopp/dealer.  Then grumble how often their car is in the shop/dealer.

Talking rears? They were fiddly and bit of pain but only hand full of bolts and swearing. Did them on my old 2.2.....

The only doughnuts are on the rear, behind the triangular plate, where the front of the rear trailing arms meet the chassis, just in front of the rear wheels.

I find them bloody difficult, because I can never remove the rusted ones.  Fortunately, I have access to a chrisgixer, who loves doing rear doughnuts

I found it fairly easy, big ass screwdriver to get it moving. I then rammed my brake calliper tool in and expanded it. Out they popped, around 45 mins each side.

Knock a cold chisel in a couple of places to get them started, and ease them out with a pair of claw hammers. A squirt of silicone spray on the new ones, a hefty clout to seat them, and an impact gun to wind them in.


As you say, about 45 minutes a side. And you'll not be doing them again.

Mine were 14 years old when I replaced them. There's no way the rest of the car is going to manage another 10 years - 2 or 3 if I'm lucky. So they're a single replacement in the car's lifetime.


Then I'll be looking for a V70, or a manual, petrol Superb estate.

Yup, not disagreeing.

I poly'd mine because rubber bushes do start to deteriorate from day 1, and I wanted to keep mine in day 1 condition.  I think mine had started to fail long before I replaced them, but I was putting it down, incorrectly, as a characteristic of the car.

Polys were double the cost, but IMHO worth it. Plus its only a 1 off expenditure...   ...and when I scrapped it, the polys came off and winged their way towards another member.

Yeah I know. But if I'm honest an Octavia will do just as well, and be a lot easier to find
