Breakdown Cover . . . again
« on: 29 March 2018, 15:29:33 »

So, I've been with the AA for ages, getting on for 40 years ! Renewal time is looming, £218 for me and the Mrs including Relay.

Eversure Insurance use "Auto-Rescue Logistics (ARL)" who in turn use "Recoverme". All a bit convoluted, but they are quoting me £72.16 INCLUDING European cover !

http://www.autorescuelogistics.co.uk/

http://www.recover-me.uk/

There MUST be a catch . . . . anyone know what it is ? Maybe as simple as crap service ? But, that's a big saving.

Time to re-negotiate. :)

It's not a crap service. It's a service that barely exists, and you have to argue like opps to get that.

www.rescuemycar.com are pretty good for a cheapy rescue service IMO.   :)

I've called them out a few times over the years and they've always had someone with me within an hour and once relayed me home from the Rhondda Valleys with no arguments or quibbling!  :y

Their premiums are dirt cheap, but you pay an excess if you call them out.  ;)

The AA cover will be for the person no matter what vehicle you are in (exept HGV)
Other cover will be on a specific vehicle only IIRC

All breakdown quote cheap for first year, then bump up renewal.

If you like the AA, and use the additional features, then call up to cancel, and say you are not willing to pay more than £100, and see where you go from there.

Obviously, if they say no, they proceed with cancellation.

We pay £120 a year for both cars. Home start, roadside recovery, onward travel, hotel accommodation, the works. Plus comprehensive travel insurance.  ::)

Make sure there is not one offered through your bank. For example I pay £13 per month for an upgraded bank account which pays interest up to £2500, gives me full breakdown cover, and 12 months world wide travel insurance. :y

I get ours through bank account as well, along with travel insurance. Worth a look for basic cover  :y

I pay a bit more directly now, to upgrade to full relay so MrsT could be taken home with kids if issues.

My bank only offers a car based policy, not a person based policy...   ...which is unsuitable for us, as she could be using any of the 3 cars, hence we buy a separate policy.

Its just renewed, I think it was about £100 for the pair of us, including relay but not homestart. I did shop around, but was unable to beat the renewal, unusually.

Here's a deal on Groupon from Emergency Assist.  £24 for premium cover, which includes national recovery and home start. Buy it via TopCashback and you get 12% cashback as well!  :y

As Ive mentioned before, I use Autoaid for around £40 a year, and have used the service a few times. I cant fault it tbh. I'm pretty sure its UK only though.
