….From Andy A posting about rear jacking/axle stand placement, where do you jack/place axle stands at the front? I'm going to finally tackle the oil cooler change this weekend and obviously need to be under the front[n/s side at least to remove oil filter and loosen oil cooler pipes]running the car up onto ramps to do this is not really an option as A] It would increase the "stretch" to work on top of engine and B] the bonnet wouldn't fully open as it would hit garage roof.So my thinking is jack/support do the necessary lower work and then drop car back onto its wheels to work under bonnet.

I jack up by sill and pop the stands ( with a sliver of wood ) under the rails about 6 inches in

I usually jack the front under the subframe, but the stands go under the chassis rails unless I'm going to be working in that area; changing the steering idler for instance.
I would never put wood between the car and a stand, it's just too slippery

Thanks for that. :y I just didn't want to jack it where the axle stand needed to be so that it didn't get in the way when removing oil filter and undoing cooler pipes.
