DB5
« on: 22 August 2018, 08:05:38 »

It seems Aston Martin are to produce 25 "James Bond" DB5s complete with some-unspecified which-of the gadgets the film car had. It'll have a 4L straight 6 with "sympathetic upgrades"to make it more reliable although apparently the cars won't be road legal ???  Must be a bargain for someone at £2.75m a pop :o

Some folks have enough money that £2.75m on a risky investment is small change.

None of them post here. ;D

I did see an original DB5 in Cambridge last weekend, though - still a beautiful car. It was in dark silver, of course (were they all?), parked outside Kings College for a little while.

Only place I've ever seen them is Le Mans. AFAIK you could have dark red, dark blue, dark green, black or silver.

Personally I'd take one in any colour.  8)

Oh, yes - if someone is donating one to me, I'm not fussy!

There is one parked outside the garage next to where I work. Plum/Maroon colour which I don't think really suits it. Can't see an ejector seat, machine guns or bullet shield. If it drives away I suppose there is a possibility of an oil slick behind it  ;D

Heard about these on radio 2 the other morning Chris Evans sounded quite keen on owning one, lovely looking vehicles, always liked them.

Lord Opti would take one, or two:)

Somewhere around 1966-68 I was 'quite often' driven to school in a DB5.

Car was owned by the father of a horse mad friend of my sister. He looked like Simon Dee and would regularly wear a cravat. I wish I had taken more notice but I do recall the sound and the way the leather rear seat (red, I think) made a curved contour around the inside of the car.

........we would, at times, get a lift home from school in a grey Austin A30 with a large indicator switch in the middle of the metal dash. That wasn't quite so elite. :) ;)

I've always liked the look of the DB5 and the Kamm tailed DB6 which followed it into production. They do say however that the DB5 is not as nice to drive as it is to look at-although when that's been said I'm never sure whether they're comparing it to driving a more modern car or whether judging it in context of its time.Nice to drive or not I'd not refuse if someone was after donating one to my fleet :D

I've seen a couple of DB7s knocking about but that's it Aston wise.Lambos and Ferraris by comparison are quite common ::)-including at least one Countach- and a few of those Audi things[R8s or something?]and there's also a white Tesla S virtually just round the corner from me.
