2.5 petrol manual estate
This car had a clonky final drive, so today I attempted to replace the diff with one off my recently scrapped 2.2 This 2.5 has had diffs changed before, one by previous owner and one by me 2 years ago with a diff saved off a scrapped 3.0. I removed the clonky diff this morning, this afternoon offered up the ex 2.2 diff. It looked the same, I got in the rear two screws, then tried to pop in the 3 front screws. They were the wrong size. Previous screws had been 12mm, the 2.2 screws were 14mm. They would not even go through the front hanger.
After a  brief panic I hauled back into the garage the dead 2.2 and whipped off the diff hanger.  I deemed that enough excitement for one day.
I wonder why all Omegas are not interchangeable?

Production tweak

Ford used different sized studs/nuts to hang the doors on the first Mk1 Sierra to later Mk1cars. Only discovered when swapping parts.

 there  is 2 different sizes of propshaft coupling anyway
so check that the prop will work ,same pcd on prop and flang
i know the 2l one is smaller

Thanks for the warning. I have just checked, the original coupling appears to fit the replacement diff, so that's OK.

There's two versions of bracket and bolts, my 02 3.2 is different to my two 52 3.2's. Serek had to replace the diff on the 02 and instantly knew he'd have to change the bracket etc.

Yes, I realise that. I think previous owner of my silver 2.5 had a diff problem, had a garage fit a used diff from a diesel, and had the engine chipped to correct things. That don't worry me. The speed data comes from the ABS system and that will be correct.

A desmond might be a bit pedestrian on a diesel diff, however, and I doubt you'd ever need 5th gear.
