Now I will get really scary; into nightmare terroritry.

There will come a day when artificial intelligence / computers will be in charge knowing everything about us. Our weaknesses, our irrelevance in the grand scheme of things which AI will totally control.  We will then be just pets, if we are lucky, with everything we do monitored and dictated by AI, with our termination coming when 'they' get bored of us or prove too costly to keep.

We are heading that way and the Terminator films will seem like an understatement of the lives we will then lead!

Almost everything is being controlled by electronic means already, including your dogs. It will in the next half of this century be humans, so dog tagging will then be remembered as the start of the downfall.

A frightening thought!

I was told the tag should have my name & postcode & phone number , advised not to have the dogs name due to the rise in dog thefts.I had as I have always had before my dogs name full address & phone number as I have always done for the last 35 years or so. I am too old to be advised what to do & as for dog thefts mine is a strictly one man dog good luck to anyone who tries to steal the 45kg muscle bound lump ! He is also microchipped as all dogs should be.

only if you have a smart phone,if like me your mobile is 22 years old, it cant be tracked! they can find out the nearest phone tower, but thats it!! and i wont be buying a newer phone! (got same model one for a spare in case it ever dies!)

You will, when 2G is turned off (that's a few years off yet, though, as 2G is predicted to out-live 3G for rural coverage). Unless 2G outlives you, of course

Actually they triangulate from three towers... Which will give a reasonable guesstimate and could pinpoint you to a modest area at any given time

yep agree "rough area" but unlike smart phones which constantly update its location,my old beast does not! nosy bastards them phone companies,plus in all the yrs ive owned it,its never been registered! lol

Our Mutt has HER name plus my mobile & our address .... she arrived with a chip. 

The dog's name being there is optional - when we got our tags they advised not to include his name as it makes it easier for someone to steal the dog and pass them off as their own..

..not that anyone is likely to steal Diesel, he's just a mutt

He would be a prime target for that kind of thing, to be fair, being a bull breed - and he's not fond of larger dogs, either, sadly (we keep him on a lead at all times). Couldn't care less if anything smaller than him is barking at him, right under his nose, kicking him in the face (as one little dog did ) but if it's his size or bigger he really, really wants to show it whose boss.

The rest of the time he manages to look remarkably cute

Thanks, Ron! We love him to bits, even if he is a big ball of neuroses (neither of us have ever known such a neurotic dog! But then he clearly had a had time of his first 9 years in life - been with us a year and has quietened down a bit now, still doesn't know how to express himself besides a strained whine or loud bark, though! )
