Who knows Vectras....I have a plan....
« on: 11 August 2006, 15:28:58 »

Hi All

I am still wounded from my theft this week and despite currnently still having 4 cars i am looking to buy another project.

Thought the wet eyes from my loss would mean it was a good time to convince the wife. Apparently not as she is thin lipped arms folded and shaking her head. Nothing new there then.

And i am thinking............

theres a local vectra with a £75 price tag with blown head gasket.
Theres me with an Omega i will soon be breaking with a great 2.5 v6 engine.

Can it be done? its not for profit its more for fun and learning.

I am thinking it probably cant be done....and if not i may buy the vectra and source a 2,5 vec engine....

Ive decided to move away from rovers and play with Vauxhalls  ;)

The 2.5 in the Vectra looks different to the 2.5 in Omega. Same block etc, but all the air intake looks different to me, and I believe its dual ram as opposed to multiram in Omega.  And if you think v6 omega engine bay is tight....

phyiscally it will fit...... i have a 2.5V6 in a mk2 cavalier, i am sure a veccy would yield lots of room....

would a RWD V6 go in, not without some changing of parts....
exhaust manifolds, sump and possibly flywheel for starters, engine mount and bracket (i have one each of those), the trunking for the multiram will need modding and you would need to find a FWD V6 starter and alternator cooling fan assembly...

Aside from that it would be a fun project, i wouldn't mind betting that the engine would go in without having to mod the chassis leg

watch out on the calibra front, they can rust faster than an omega, especially the rear IRS setup

Having seen both the omega and the vectra V6 engine, TheBoy not that I can tell the difference between multi ram and dual ram but the tops are definately different, and i have to agree I know someone who has a V6 vectra and he says its a nightmare doing anything on it.

Markiec whether you decide the vectra route, good luck with it :)

thanks Jay w  ;) maybe it is a go-er then

It was the whole front to rear wheel drive difference that was concerning me.

If i have the Vectra chassis and the omega 2.5 box/ engine and anciliaries i cant be far away.

I know the vectra chassis is not great with a v6 lump in it but its just for fun really  :)

What WOULD be interesting is converting the Vectra to rear wheel drive and dropping it in.....if its one with independent rear suspension it might be possible....

it's even possible to fit a 3.0 into a vectra - there's one for sale on "another" forum (migweb IIRC) already done, plus a mate is planning to do exactly that - needs to find a suitable X30XE. AFAIK the block's the same, it's the inlet and exhaust manifolds etc. that are different.

Hmmmmm

so its game on - as i know i can get the support on here when stuck

Its not the engine thats the difficult part - its converting the wife. Still i have the omega already if she puts her foot down i will wait till the another rover is gone and replace it with a vectra!!

 ;)

You have to change the following:
camcovers, timing cover, exhaust manfolds, inlet manifolds, flywheel, starter motor, oil pickup pipe and sump- the Vectra V6 does have multi ram and the best V6 inlet manfold called the cuppa manfold.
the best bit is they are much better on fuel than the Omega.
i have just towed a 17ft caravan from merseyside to worcester, then London - then brighton then Gt Yarmouth and back to merseyside - averaging 32mpg!!!!!!!!
