Perseverance is...
« on: 27 July 2009, 19:40:24 »

..spending an hour and a half removing that sodding oil cooler pipe nut from the bottom of the engine, after the first one came out with no fight at all.

Thought I'd got it once, about an hour ago, but it was in fact me being a twerp and slipping with the socket, only to then damage the nut by keeping turning...

Bit of filing, some glowering, three cups of tea, and enough swearing to embarrass Ricky Tomlinson... and its out.

Now just the rest of it to do...  8-)

I gave up trying to undo the 2nd one and after taking some expert advice I bent it up enough to get the job done.It was a bit nerve wracking though. ::)

Bending oil cooler pipes is expert advice?  ::)  ;D

I agree though, as a very last resort, you may have to - better than damaging a thread in the block, 'cos then you're really stuck  :-X

I was considering hacksawing through the pipe and putting a socket around the whole thing, but a quick read on here suggested that would be as good an idea as employing Glitter Babysitting Services Ltd...

Been out and about, so this afternoon I'm cracking on and will hopefully have it fitted :y

desperately wanted to do the job properly when i re sealed my oil cooler plate on previous mig, but really had no choice but to bend them. Those pipe nuts can be real tinkers....
Hope bending them didnt cause the next owner any grief.

i am under the impression flair nut spanners will also do the job? Esp ones with a hinge near the head end allowing the handel to angle for access. Anyone have a preference? I guess crows feet are cheaper.

SUCCESS!

Oil cooler fitted, cam cover gaskets fitted, new plugs and filters, fresh oil, everything back together, and it runs better than ever.

Just got the coolant to flush now, would have had it done if the British Summer weather hadn't intervened with a rainstorm Noah would have been impressed with...

Ooh, not at the moment - it's got filth all over it, it looks like an Omega Zebra edition.

Hoping to have it clayed, polished and waxed by the weekend, I'll photo it then :y
