Clutch problem?
« on: 15 August 2007, 16:37:02 »

I'm noticing that I'm getting a bad clutch judder... but only from cold. It does it for the first few pullaways, and then is totally fine! Also, first and second (Especially first) is getting harder than it used to be to engage, even more so from cold.

I thought the judder may be oil on the clutch plate - but it only does it when cold - would this theory still be valid?

Also thought worn engine mounting - but then it would do it all the time!

I've changed the oil in the box.

Is it new clutch time? Clutch has done nearly 70k, with 55k of that as a taxi? (Dave should confirm ;D)

Bear in mind this is a VeccyB, front wheel drive - anyone done one, or got any ideas on what it'll be like to do?

I don't mind treating it to a new clutch and some TLC, as it's a cracking car on gas....

Yes , i would suggest a new clutch assy. Sounds like there is a spring or duel mass weakness.

My old Laguna used to judder when cold. 137,000 on the original clutch so sounds like a clutch change might be worthwhile. Is there any sign of oil leakage around the lower bellhousing? Just wondering if contamination from a leaky crank oil seal or gearbox input shaft seal. These'll be obvious when yiou do the clutch and can be rectified then, however.

I'd plan on a clutch change next time you fancy another gearbox out experience (must be getting withdrawal symptoms by now?).

Mine went on for about 40,000 after it started juddering then I sold it so I wouldn't regard it as urgent.

All engine mounts afaik have been changed.....or should have been......i paid for them to be done.

Thinking about it....i recall garage mentoned a weak g/b mount but nothing was ever done about it......could this be the prob? but then as you say about engine mount, it would do it all the time  :-/

Could be the clutch i guess.....yes James is correct on the mileage of the clutch, it had a full clutch kit fitted at 151k......so probably about due? Blimey you done 15k in it already James  :o By my calcs its on 226k now  :o

Certainly sounds like clutch, the engine stabiliser bar also needs replacing around 40k as well, you can tell when they are rubbish because gear changes are jerky.
