Face Lift Omega's Corrosion Protection
« on: 05 August 2006, 12:27:35 »

I'm aware that the later face lift Omega's have better corrosion protection by means of zinc galvanisation but does anybody know which parts of the car actually received this treatment? I think I remember reading somewhere that it was 75% of the external car panels but wondered if anyone knows what parts they actually treated. The late estate cars seem to be having some problems with corrosion on the tailgate which presumably was not covered. Would be very interested if anybody knows for sure.

I don't know for fact about the Omega but normally the body shell itself is galvanised, not the removable panels e.g. doors and tailgate.

The brochure for the early models claims the car is "extensively galvanised"... it's quite apparent that Vauxhall don't use the Oxford English Dictionary's definition of "extensive"  ;D

I still have a 12 year old Audi that I used to use as a runaround and never got round to selling, it's sat on my parents' driveway without tax for around a year now. The only piece of rust on that car is the brake discs (which are rotten with it being unused for so long); there isn't a single spot of rust on the body, even though there are a few places where the paint has been chipped through to metal. When Audi say a car has been galvanised, I believe it... VX on the other hand....  :-X

Bang on 6 years, 2000 registered X plate.

I understood that clamimg on the Vx corrision warrenty is harder than getting blood from a stone! - I thought you had to have a yearly stamp in the service book for corrusion? - Which mine does not have

Not true....vx dealer did rust on my back door....didnt even ask to see service book.....several on here have had rust sorted under warranty fairly easily.

Check the V5 to see when it was 1st registered....you may be lucky  ;)

BTW mine doesnt have any stamps for the annual inspection

Cheers

Thats good news  :)

Take the V5 with you....altho vx dealer should be able to tell how old it is. But we all know what muppets they can be sometimes!

Leave the service book at home.....just in case they do take a peek at it.....and then say its not been vx serviced all its life (assuming it hasnt).

Reason for this is.....the yearly anti corrosion inspection is free....and therefore can be argued that vx dealer should have done it when they serviced the car.....so if the service book isnt upto date with vx dealer stamps.....then they could argue it hasnt been at a vx dealer for the last 'x' years so inspection couldnt have been done.

And assuming the rust isnt a stone chip thats been left to rust....vx dealer will ask for authorisation from vx to do the rust and in a couple of weeks the paint shop at vx dealer will be ringing you to book it in to be sorted.

PS do you get your mum to do/find everything??  ;D

Most things yup  ::)

Having living away from home for so long, its nice to come back home to some good home cooking. Besides she is the only one who knew were i 'filled' the log book.

My car to my knowladge has not been service buy Vauxhall, it was a lease car. Soo if i tell them it was a lease car and never been to Vauxhall they should still fixed the rust??

Can't they argue that if its never been checked by Vauxhall for corrusion then i cannot claim??

Its not a stone chip its on the bottom corner of the back drivers side door, also has a little bit on the chasis of the car on the corner... i'll take some pics......

or even june  ;)

ummm i wouldnt mention anything of its history to vx dealer.....just take it in and ask for someone to look at the rust....saying its not 6years old yet and you reckon it should be done under warranty.

Hmmm

I imagined it was worse than that.....altho rust is still rust.

Bonnet area you've prolly no chance as they will more than likely say stone chip.
Rear door they might say its been whacked against summat....again chipped

BUT you dont know until you take it in to vx dealer and ask.....if the 1st says no chance....stone chips....take it to another for 2nd opinion.

I have a few spots coming through on my rear door.

Whats the best course of action with regards to treatement?

It's a pre-facelift but the same treatment will surely apply

Go for it m8.....take it to vx dealer this week.....dont leave it a day over....dont worry about having no service book.....vx dealer may say no....if stonechips etc....if they say yes....then result!!  :)

VX seem pretty good in getting rust probs resolved....esp on models that they claim that have an extensive anti corrosion measures!  ;)

Let us know how u get on
