Yep, the stalk came off no bother, simply by depressing the two clips. Why Mr Haynes has you remove the steering wheel is anyones guess!
Thanks for the offer of the cable Markiec, I'm hoping to get the Cruise up and running fairly soon, but it'll depend on how everything else goes. Let me know when it's available  :)

My indicator stalk arrived yesterday from Lea Valley so i changed it over this afternoon, only to find that the stalk they sent me was faulty and the full beam would not work. (Ok on flashing, but would not work at all when trying to put on permanently)

not uncommon on seond hand ones....
