Ponytail or plaids?

Bit worried - I've got hair growing out of my exhaust! :o :o



If I pull it, there seems no end...I just cut off about a foot and a half!

What is it? I would guess that my back box is disintegrating. Can I carry on (just giving it a haircut now and agan ;D), or will it adversely affect performance? Do I need to rush out and get a new back box?

Just the baffles coming out.

I believe it will still run OK, may get noisy though...

Change the backbox asap.

It will cause a restriction in the exhaust gas flow and affect performance.

Oh and a new one will make the car sound so much nicer! ;)

....so to confirm this is the back box?  i was under the impression, as project cdx has two blown cats it may have come from there....

am i wrong...i hope so cos that means i have two decent cats!!! :)

I would change the back box asap.....if that glass wool filling manages to block the flow then you get excessive backpressure which will upset the secondary air injection non-return valve and cut-off solenoid.

By upset I mean MELT the solenoid :o

OK, new back box it is then. BuyPartsBy are doing a Timax back box for £36.73 + vat, so not too serious an expense. Should be able to fit it myself.

That sounds cheap.  Last time i wanted a back box for my 2.0 i was quoted around £90 supplied, £100 fitted.

The Timax one is cheap... and for a reason.

Personally I would not put a Timax exhaust on a 15 year old Yugo..... well actually I would! ;)

I certainly would not put it on an Omega. It is a cheap nasty replacement that is far too noisy!

Go get a genuine back box.

Laidback and The Boy, I agree with you both that an OEM back box would be best. However, this is a 1995 car and this week I'm forking out £65 for a new A/C valve and pipe and £75 for a new Uniroyal (which has worn down almost to the canvas on the inside -  hence my visit to Tony last week to get the geometry done).

I'd love a super back box, one that really brings out the V6 in all its glory. But I can't justify the extra expense on such an aged car, so although it may be cheap and nasty,  I think you can understand why I'm probably going for the Timax!!!!
