Now i know Ebay has a host of pages explaining how you go about becoming a seller but I thought I might ask on here as i know of a few people who sell stuff on here.

Have been registered since last year and have bought a few things and am thinking to sell a few bits.

Can anyone tell me what the going rate is for listing with photo's, also how do you guage how much to charge for delivery purposes is it a case of going to the local post office or just guess work.

May sound silly me asking but if i'm gonna use ebay sometimes it is handy to have help from people that have used ebay before for selling.

Any responses would be much appreciated

Oh you HAVE to get the 'eBay for dummies' book  

Sorry, can't be of any help, never sold on eBay.  Do think the shelf full of books at the bookstore on how to use eBay is a bit ridiculous.

I'm much in the same boat really, I done plenty of buying on there but never sold. I'd be pretty interested in any replies from experienced sellers.

Well download turbo lister it makes life a bit easier

Always use gallery option, more people will look

Do not Ebay host your pictures, apart from the free one - link to off site

Play with start price to get cheaper listings

Wait for a promo to save money

Do not tick every box as each one costs money

Spell correctly

Use a clear and accurate title

Do not overprice

Depends what you are selling. Cars cost £6 to list but you get 12 photos free. Always use 99p starting price on everything else to keep the listing fee down to 15p. Use gallery photo, 15p extra. Don't use reserves, they just put people off. Great HONEST description and good quality photos always works.

I have been selling on ebay for nearly 5 years. I have over 500 positive feedbacks from people, 475 of those from different people. Reputation is everything on ebay, so don't mess people about.

I use extensive HTML in my listings which make everything more professional. A little effort makes big returns.

Keep the listing simple. factual and accurate.  Think about what you would want to know before you bought and put that!

Like Martin says, the lower the inital price, the cheaper the listing.

Re the postage, goto the http://www.royalmail.com/portal/rm/content1?catId=400023&mediaId=9300094 to check out the postage costs, always send things recorded.

Hi there,

Having been an art distributor for the last 10 years, nine of them spent selling exclusively to galleries in the UK, I decided to change what i did business-wise and stepped down as the UK distributor for a major US art publisher about this time last year.

Since then, I have spent the last 12 months selling all of the stock i had on Ebay, mainly Ebay in the USA as most of my art is American, so I have lots and lots of experience in selling on Ebay. For those interested in art, my username is tiptopart1.

Wow thanks for all the tips and suggestions, should help when I come to sell stuff on there.

The missus has an account now and even she is considering selling stuff on there too. (Kids clothes etc).

£6 cars plus final valuation fee of £15 if it sells.

Costs for listing is on a sliding scale depending on start price, from 15p to £`s

Pictures cost 15p

I use a set of digital scales to weigh - or bathroom scales to weigh.

Then bung on a bit for packing ( a realistic bit) and match the cost of postage with the charges on www.royalmail.co.uk
