General Car Chat / So, back to the age old question
« on: 14 July 2020, 18:41:19 »
What do you replace an Omega with?  Mrs TB's daily, covering about 2k monthly, so rules out anything tasty.

Requirements:
Comfortable mile cruncher, so large saloon
40+ mpg
ideally well over 500m to a tank (one area that became problematic with TBE)
Sludge-o-matic
RWD/AWD/4WD
Good visibility (unlike the x351 XJ, which is a bit crap)
Comfortable for passengers
Sub 100k
Ideally less than £6-7k, unless the car perfectly suits her needs.
DAB + BT streaming. BBC Radio is not conducive to her remaining mild mannered.

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / 3.2 Alternator removal/refit
« on: 14 July 2020, 13:28:38 »
So save getting lost in the other thread...

So using this (from an early v6) as a basis - http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/index.php?topic=107049.0

Implication is there is a bolt/nut at rear of alternator.  Is that still same for 3.2?

HS2 Ltd have made these strange zigzags they are making in the fields, what are they for?

(Warning, attached link is a 400Mb MOV file!)

Before I send it to landfill, any small business owner need an old, but ultra reliable phone system?

Norstar Compact Plus (BT name for the UK version of the Norstar Compact ICS), with a load of handsets in various states of sun discolouration.  It comes with 2 analogue line cards (4 lines per card), and at least one of those is the type that recognises UK CLI.  Easy to use (hybrid key&lamp/pbx), easy to program (https%3A%2F%2Fbtbusiness.custhelp.com%2Feuf%2Fassets%2FTelephoneSystems%2FNorstar%2FCompactPlus%2Fcsag(rls5).pdf), robust and stupidly reliable.  Inbuilt ATA for an analogue phone, I might have other external ATA units.

Free to a good home (ie, not immediately turn round and plonk on egay), but collection only.

As next day delivery obviously does not mean next day delivery.

So call them, go straight into an IVR. All possible options end in a "We are not taking calls".

Online chat then, as they recommend it and they are showing online, so enter war and peace with all the details and references, to get automated immediate reply, "we are not doing online chat"

So email then.  Autoresponder saying they "normally" reply in 24hrs.  Are they classing current situations as normally? Or do I have to wait a week to find out where the parcel they should have sent last week is?

Its over £100, so the credit card company can deal if nothing in a day or 2...

I need a USB (A) to USB-C cable.  Should be nice and cheap on eBay.  But all the 99p listed ones are really £3-6 due to the way to can list shit on there.

Unless they clamp down on these shenanigans, I can see normal people like me simply not bothering.

Knob jockeys.

General Discussion Area / images server
« on: 04 May 2020, 17:46:25 »
this seems unstable currently, which will impact page loading.  I will repoint the static images to come from the main OOF server until they can keep their server up for more than 24hrs at a time.

However, all the guides are on the images server, so they may be intermittently unavailable.

Ticket raised to host hours ago, no response beyond an autoresponder saying they are busy...   ...not sure why they are though.

General Discussion Area / A revelation
« on: 29 April 2020, 19:24:37 »
Like most people in my generation, I used to live and breath a bit of footie in my younger days. And wasn't half bad at it as well.

But I rarely watch any games on the telly now.

With the lockdown, and no televised games, they have been showing some older games from the 90s, and that is when I had this revelation.  Back in the 90s, they played footie, and were proper men. The games were enjoyable, and was about the game.  Now its a game played by a bunch of poofters who are better actors than football players.

Back in the 90s, players rarely fell over without being touched, or purposely tripped over a trailing foot.  Nor did they were poofter tights or gloves.

Where as now, rather than playing footie, its a game of theatrics, constantly appealing any decision, be it fouls, or who's throw-in it is, and it seems the idea is to get in the penalty area and fall over.

No wonder I can't be dealing with it any more.  Its probably the reason I prefer womens footie over the poofters, because they play the game, not act it.

As I'm sure all our cars, after 3 weeks of most of us being couped up at home, as mechanically sorted, how are you filling your spare time?

Looks like today I'll have to cut the front grass.  The RC cars have trashed the rear lawn over the last fortnight, so suspect seeding will be more appropriate than mowing ;D

General Discussion Area / No wonder my council tax has hiked
« on: 15 March 2020, 16:16:13 »
Due to the HS2 white elephant, the local parish council has spent the last 3 months fencing off all green areas to stop the thieving, disgusting "traveller community" who will be doing all the work.

Clearly the parish is expecting pikeys to become a significant issue. So when the brainwashed come out and say the construction will pump loads of money into the economy, you know its all 'dangle berries'.

So not only are we all putting in thousands to build (and more thousands each annually to run it) this pointlessness, our parish - and I imagine several others along the route - will get hiked council taxes.

Great. Pillocks. Well, corrupt pillocks.
