Left field choice, Mr Rog.........Mazda RX8. They are fantastic drivers cars and affordable to boot.
Friend of mine picked up a good condition example with reasonable miles for £2k not so long ago - it's his track toy but so far has been refined, reliable and .. ok, far from economical
They're a good buy if you can find one without apex seal issues.
Despite having only 9000 miles under it's wheels the man who bought ours insisted on a hot compression test. He was so keen to buy that he paid for it himself....(about £100 if memory serves)
Buyers always need to check that the car starts easily from hot. If they don't this can be a sign of low compression.......which can mean death to the rotary engine.
Expect 13 MPG if you boot it.
Some unscrupulous 'Rxers' fit an 'upgraded' starter motor to mask hot starting issues.
