You're probably only 12' from the other car, Webby, and 12' from a concrete wall on the other side.. and as has been said, there is no divider - stuff it up badly enough (or if the other person does) and you're into a wall or a car.
Having said that you'd have to drive like a complete dingle to get an Omega that out of shape, and if the other car is fast enough to get that out of shape it's probably far down the road already..
Left foot on brake, bring the revs up to just off the stall speed of the torque convertor and when the lights go green, mash the throttle then feather the wheel spin off.
I don't guarantee you'll get even one run out of the gearbox doing that, though..
so probably a better idea just to treat it like a traffic light GP.
Oh and as said, I'm not sure Santa Pod offer 0-60mph times, just how long it takes you to complete the set distances (0-60ft, 0-200ft and quarter mile, usually) and your reaction time..
