Got a misting OSR damper too that needs sorting, would like a set of B4`s but cant afford it at the moment so I`ll have to make do.

Took Exhaust cat section to magic welding man, who put me a nice new flange on (old flange corroded badly, but rest of cat in reasonable shape) also weld on a better 'taper' on the end of the other Cat. (ie the bit that goes just inside the flared piece of pipe)

Went home, the plan being to smooth off the welds, climb under the V6, remove the heat shields, give them a paint up, pop them back, fit the exhaust.

so....

Angle-grinded too much off the weld, thus making a neat little slit in the exhaust pipe.
Sheared a thread when trying to remove the heat shields. Got one shield off ok in the end, then got another - which on closer inspection was so badly corroded it's in no way worth painting. There's a bit of a mish-mash of studs and nuts n bolts holding the shields on, so clearly they've been off and on before, with the same sheared thread problem.

So net worth of tonight-
-Flange fitted to 1 exhaust pipe
-Hole repaired in other exhaust pipe - I then get flap-wheel happy and make the hole again  :-[
-Remove 1 heat shield, snapping a thread
-Removed 2nd heat shield - it's had it. Need another.

a bit of a 1 step forward, 2 steps back sort of day  :(

Finally made a start on reattaching the back box rear hanger ::)

Have used some sooperdooper epoxy gunge to stick it on, and clamped it with the towbar mounting. Managed to snap two of the heatshield studs, only to find that the useless bodging arsewits who repaired it last time it was rear ended had used mastic to reattach the heat shield >:(

Fortunately, being the far superior estate model, I can actually access and drill all the mounting points from the boot/sparewheel well without breaking a sweat ;D

Job for Sunday now, but will give the epoxy chance to set, then I shall liberally apply a gallon of brushable seam sealer over the entire thing to stop it rotting away.

Also found out that it needs a new screen as it has developed a six inch crack (insert comment of choice here) right infront of the steering wheel :'(

Finished the exhaust hanger repair...

Have riveted the repair panel to give it a bit of extra support, although me hanging off the hanger didn't so much as make it creak, so probably overkill ::)

Four bolts fitted for the heatshield...

Order of assembly went:

Paint
Bolt
Seam sealer
Washer
Seam sealer
Body shell
Seam sealer
Washer
Seam sealer
Nut
Seam sealer
Liberal coat of paint
Washer
Heat shield
Washer
Lock nut

Exhaust back on and all tickety boo 8) just needs a new screen and I can get it MoTd...
