so 2 of you reckon its the HBV then?
Mmmmm, i dont know i aint mechanical, so i cant say anything!
just didnt want to spend out on a car that maybe no good IF it is the damn gasket gone or going

so VX could be lying saying my head gasket has gone?
does that explain when i remove this ONE AND ONLY Vacuum pipe i now get heat, isnt that weird?

if i find out that VX are lying, im going to BBC Watchdog to expose these complete and utter lying "B******S"
they shouldnt be able to lie like that!
other silly people would have paid there 21 hour labour charge when there is ZERO wrong with their vehicles!

HOW DO THESE PEOPLE SLEEP AT NIGHT?

am I the only one thinking hbv? if that's faulty and not sending water to the matrx, that would cause no heat, plus if its leaking....

As you all know, I am mechanicaly inept - but must admit I was thinking alone those lines early on. However I was thrown by this pipe -- haven't studied the pics yet though.

I cannot say for sure, hbv routes water to the heater matrix and around the engine. its common for this to fail, cause leaks and be linked to hg. read the maint guide section and feel around that area for leaks

One very simple question.

Did you ever fix that issue you had last year with a constant vac to HBV, thus no heat?

just got off the phone from my mate who lives in my village, the guys a bleedin Legend for fixing cars, been on the phone for ages, he definately thinks its the head gasket because of this:

1: when i drove back from Nottingham on Saturday, i had no heat.... when i checked coolant level it was fine..

2: when i got up this morning, the coolant level had dropped from Maximum to Minimum, this surely indicates that its losing water and its mixing with the oil yes? indicating Gasket Failure

3: i have no leaks anywhere, so it MUST be going somewhere, if the coolant level is constantly low every morning, then surely this is a big problem?

he also said that you dont always get symptoms like sludge in the oil straight away and any performance problems, which im not getting either of

take it easy please.  you're not getting abuse from here.  there are lots of people trying to help!

Right, let me see if I can explain...

The omega cooling/heating set up is complex.  on the V6, there are lots of bits that can go wrong.  Very rarely do you ever get a head gasket failure but unless you are very familiar with the vauxhall V6 powerplants fitted the omega you will often suspect the HG when it is in fact something else.  So, onto what the something else could be

The HBV is a Heater Bypass Valve.  this is a little plastic valve that sits on the back of the engine that diverts hot water away from your heater matrix when vacuum is applied to it.  Now i cannot see your pictures on facebook but I am guessing the vacuum pipe you removed is connected to this valve.  removing the pipe, means that the valve no longer diverts and hey presto, hot water flows to the heater matrix - you get heat.

the solenoid referred to by TB is a switch that turns the vacuum on - if this fails then you have a permenant vacuum and the bypass valve is always diverting heat from the matrix.  i'm not surprised that TB said he would not fix it, it is a real pain to do!  if you had fixed it, you would have been further forward - your heating would work properly

Now it seems like you have a water leak somewhere, so this needs to be traced.  It could easily be something simply like a water pump failing or even a small leak in a pipe.  you need someone to carefully examine the car  when it is hot for any trace of a leak

good luck
